We, the undersigned, practitioners ) f medicine
In Germany, arc well aware that, by oyr course,
we may forfeit the friendship of some tff.jhe facul
ty, but not of its benevolent members, who are un
influenced by selfish motives. Thougp «we shall
refrain from an expression of our opinion, either
of the soundness or unsoundness of Dy. ooelick’s
new doctrine, we are happy to say r that we deem
his Sanative too valuable not to bt; generally
known—for what our eyes behold and our ears
hear, we must believe. I
We hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Offon
Goelick first came before the German, public, as
the pretended discoverer of a new doc‘r?ne and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronouncii g him to be
a base impostor ;« d the prince of quacks. But, on
hearing so much said about the Sanative, it
and for it, we were induced, from motives ol curi
•fity merely, to make trial of its reputed virtues
upon a number of our most hopeless potionts; and
we now deem it our hounden duty (el on at the
expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge
its efficacy in curing not only consu r.ption, but
other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore *
believed to be incurable. Our contempt for the {
discoverer of this medicine was at once s wallowed
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected
results; and, as amends for our abuse ol him, we
do frankly confess to the world, that =we believe
him a philanthropist, who docs honor tt the proles
sicu, and to our country, which gave him birth.
The recent adoption of this medicine into some
o our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty
that it performs all promises. It needed not our
estimony, for wherever it is used it is ts own best

A Late and Valuable Discovery*
13ERIIAP8 tnere is nothing mo-'* c°lcrr!ated to
disgust the public eye than the innumerable
advertisements of nostrums lhat are constantiy ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready to ex
claim, our souls are sick, our ears arc pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics. This slate
ol the public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis
coveries in medicine, to the trial of the public.—
Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent ns from
making known real discoveries, which we are con
fident will benefit our fellow men. This latter
consideration has prompted ihe author of thesehit
ters to make them known. He knows they are high
ly efficacious, fur he himself, his wife, arid many
friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic, so much, that even
his recollection was gone. By using these billers
he has been restored to health. Mrs. Cosby was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by the use of these bitters. This has been the case
with many of Ins trends. Mr. Cosby in sending
forth this advertisement, addresses those w ho know
him. He lias been for many years a resident of
Augusta at which jdace he can at any time bs

Radical Cure o I Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved .Surgeons’ Trusses.
rjTIIE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
JL store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson & Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
alfection, by the use of these Trusses, besides man v
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Bociety on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wear other
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from somerespousi”
ble person,of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to everv variety of reducible rupture.

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
X| R. MILES* COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
1 f TOMATO —a substitute Tor Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, ©r any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme
North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting tc
be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuiu
than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they- are all that they
profess to be, and will do for otheis what they
have done for such as mav have used them ; as
Jiis is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
asceitaineJ that .ney coiuauieu alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day-. If you wish to cleanse the sy-stem with a
mild, sa,e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we learn, will soon be in
lus city. Wc ali know sometnmg auout tnis.

TABLE PILLS. We understand by the best med
ical authority, that there is no preparation of the day
which enjoys so enviable a reputation. At the
South and North, their success has been unbounded,
and wherever introduced we believe they have
given the trust perfect satisfaction. V\ e have this
day had an interview with une ot our citizens, H.

aide and obstinate cutaneous eruption, where the
body was covered with fulsome ulcers, and even
the tonsils of the throat eaten away—ami by using
these PILLS daily lor six weeks, was entirely re
stored to health.— New York Examiner.
PETERfc’ VEGETABLE PILLS,
They do indeed restore the health of the body,
because ihey purify and invigorate the blood, and
I lieu good effects are not counterbalanced by any
inconvenience ; being composed entirely of vegeta
bles, they do not expose those who use them to
danger, and their effects are as certain as they are
salutary; they are daily and safely administered to
infancy, youth, manhood and old age, and to wo
men in the most critical and delicaie circumstances,
they do not disturb or shock the animal functions,
hut restore their order and re establish their health;
nd for all the purposes which a vegetable purga
tive, or certain cleanser ot the whole system are re
uuired, they stand without a rival—they are allow
ed to be all that can be accomplished in medicine,
both for power and innocence.

r|HHS incomparable and invaluable remedy so
long known, and used with such nnparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeais, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through ali of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su jess which followed it in a Northern lati
| tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Chevcrcs, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
I Wabcnoshc prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise t© the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
M. Cbeveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture
Few white men would credit the length of time
. which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

is to subdue every vestige of inflamation, and then
acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic ; thereby
holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for
the subduction of this loathsome malady—and ev

assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to
atlect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree -

from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been

HEADACHE, SICK OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s
remedy for this distressing compaint is every day
gaining is certainly a matter of much astonishment, '
That so much suffering should have existed for ages
without any discovery of an effectual preventivs, or ,
cure, is truly a subject of much regret but Dr. S. j
now assures the public that such a remedy has been i
invented as will convince the mostcredulous. The 1
principles on which it acts aresimpleand plain. It is
an admitted fact that this complaint, whether called
Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from the stomach—those who think they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, the stomach, is the first cause, lhat th“ sys

stomach, and that only through the same channel

healthy functions of the system. This object, Dr
Spohn’s remedy is eminently calculated to attain.
The truth of this position cannot be controverted,

in restoration of health, Dr. Spohn pledges his
professional reputation on this fact. Tue remedy

MOFFAT’S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES
fiAHESE medicines are indebted for their name
A to tht ir manifest and sensible action in puri
fying the spring and channels ol life, and enduing
them with renewed tone and vigor. In manv hun
dred certified cases which has been made public,
and in almost every species of disease to which
the human frame is liable, the happy effects of
MOFFAT’S LIFE FILLS AND PHENIX BIT
TERS have been gratefully and publicly ac-
Jnowledged by the persons benefiitted, and who
were previously unacquainted with the beaufiiully
philosophical principles upon which they are
compounded, and upon which they eonsequently
act.
The LIFE MEDICINES rcccniimend themselves
in diseases ot every form and description. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coats of the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities eon.-tantly settling around them ; and to
remove the hardened faeces which collect i
comolusions of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
alcostiveness with all its train ofevils. or in a sud
den diarrhoea, with its eminent dangers. This fact
is well known to all regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after deaili ; and hence
the prejudice of those well informed men against
quack meidomes—or medicines prepared and her-
Jaded to the public bv ignorant pi rsons. 'J he se
cond effect ot the Life Medicines is to cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, and bv this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of w hich
entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary
organs. Ihe blood, which takes its red color from
the agency of the liver and the lungs before it
passes into the heart, being thus purified by them
and nourished by food coming from a clean stom
ach, courses freely thiough the veins, renews every
part ol the system, and triumphantly mounts the
banner of health in the blooming cheek.
Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been
thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign
remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation of
the Heart, Lossot Appetite, Heart-buraand Head
ache, Restlessness, 111-temper, Anxiety, Languor
and Melancholy, Cosliveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera,

Eruptions and Bad Complexions, Eruptive com

which afflict the human frame. In fever and
ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been
mustemineritly successful; so much so that in the
Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni
( versally prescribe them.
All lhat Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
I to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly
1 according to the directions. It is not by a news
paper nolice, or any thing that he himself may say
j in their favor, that ho hopes to gam credit. It is
alone by the result of a fair trial.

PETERS’ VEGETABLE PILLS.
riHIESjS Pills are no longer among those of
i JL doubtful utility. They have passed away
from the hundreds that are daily launched upon
the tide of experiment, and now stand before the
public as high in reputation, and as extensively
employed in all parts of Ihe United Slates, the Can
adas, Texas, Mexico, and the West Indies, as any
•! medicine that has ever been prepaied for the relief
j of suffering man. They have been introduced
wherever it was found possible to carry them; and
• there are but few towns that do not contain some
remarkable evidences of their good effects. Trie
certificates lhat have been presented to the proprie
tor exceed twenty thousand I upwards of five hun
dred ol which are from regular practising physicians,
who are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicine
’ been the subject ot editorial comment in various
newspapers and journals ; and it may with truth
be asserted, that no me heme of the kind has ever
received testimonials of greater value than are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine,
and there are thousands of families who declare
they are never satisfied unless they have a supply
always on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Bilious fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
i Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Piles„,Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn, Fur
red 'l ongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach
and Bowels, Incipient Diarrhoe, Flatulence, Habit
ual Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or
Sallow Complexion, and in all cases of Torpor of
the Bowels, whete a cathartic or an aperient is
needed. They are exceedingly mild in their opeta-
Uon, producing neither nausea, griping nor debility.
The efficacy ot these pills is so well known, and
their use so general, that further comment is con
sidered unnecessary.

The Chronicle and Sentinel is devoted to -
Commerce, Politics,and General Intelligence.
Its location in the principal mart of the State, .
gives it decided advantages over the papers of any j
other part of the State, in presenting the earliest 1

strictest accuracy for the tri-weekly and weekly
papers, which affords the Merchant, Planter and
ali classes of society, the earliest and most impor
tant commercial intelligence.
In Politics, it is the advocate of a sound curren
cy, based upon specie—the re-charter of a National
Bank the principles of State Rights—economy ,
reform and retrenchment in the Federal adminis- ?
tration :—and opposes the leading measures of the
present administration of the Gener: I Government.
In miscellany and general intelligence, great !
cere is taken to render the paper both valuable and
interesting to all classes cf society.
The proprietors will, as soon as their circulation
is sufficiently enlarged, (which they hope will be
in the course of t e present year,) increase the size
of their weekly sheet, when they will present their

Hermitage extract.— This lately in- j
vented combination of delightful odors, lias ;
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason oi ;
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina- 9

many other extracts and essences is almost as eva
nescent as the bloom of the tlowers from which
they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an indefinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
