AUGUSTA*
MONDAY, OCTOBER 11.
“ it ig of infinite moment that you should pro
perly estimate the immense value of your national
union to your collective and individual happiness;
that you should cherish a cordial, habitual, and
iintnoreable attachment to it; accustoming your
selves to thiuk and speak of it as the palladium
of your political safety and prosperity; watch
ing for its preservation with jealous anxiety;
discountenancing whatever may suggest even a
suspicion that it can in any event be abandoned;
and indignantly frowning upon the first dawning
of every attempt to alienate any portion of our
country from the rest, or to enfeeble the sacred
ties which now link together the various parts.”

The Cotton Market is very dull-few buyers—

loads sold this morning at 11 cents. The quality
is not so good, since the dry weather ceased—
price ranges from 9!• 111, according to quality.
Scarcely any old offerad.

disingenuous and dishonest partisans ought to

tome place of safety. After her name-iake in
Charleston was so beaten, she took wisdom in
her anger—barely shaking her head, and rolling
her eye-balls, until we published the letter of
Gov. Troup, the other day, to the Columbia Com
mittee, which she, like some of the Carolinians,
hag mistaken to be in favor of nullification. We
are told she has been quite furious ever since,
frothing at the mouth, pawing up the earth and
bellowing, and threatening the anti-nullifiers of
this good city with annihilation. The City Coun
cil is advised to have her horns sawed off, or or
der the Marshal to drum her over the bridge
again.
OLD IRONSIDES!
Extract of a letter from Washington
City , Sept. 25, 1830.
“ We understand that a survey has late
ly been made to determine, if the state of
the frame of the old ship, “ The Consti
tution,” was such as to admit of being re
paired, and again restored to the service
of the Navy.
“The result of this examination has
been entirely favorable—her timbers have
been ascertained to be generally in good
condition, as sound and solid as when first
employed in her construction. An order
has been issued from the Navy Depart
ment, requiring the repairs of this ship to
be commenced without delay, that she
may be put io commission for active ser
vice.
"It is highly gratifying to know, that
this fine old ship of war is again to be put
afloat on the ocean, “ the theatre of her
own ship’s crew’s renown;” and that she
is not to be sold under the hammer of the
auctioneer, as was at first erroneously re
pogted : Indeed, I should very much re
gret the occurrence of any circumstances
which should make it necessary to sub
ject her “ old hulk” to sale, regarding her
almost as we do the subject from which
she derives her name, as something “ not
to hr bought or sold.”
“ Very respectfully, tie. Ac.
VIATOR.”

Journal ol* Commerce,
EVENING EDITION.
AN evening Edition of tlie Journal
of Commerce is published daily,
and sent off by the great Southern and
Xorthero Mails and tho Steamboat Mui!
to the East. This edition contaius all
news received by the mails and from ves
sels arriving at this port, and a notice of
mercantile transactions in the New-York
M trket whenever they possess interest,
down to 2 o’clock, P. M. The Editors
havn established a very valuable corres
pondence, with all the principal commer
cial cities in the world. They have a
•wist sailing schooner, built in Baltimore
expressly for them, besides row boats, the
whole maintained at an aneual expense
of more than four thousand dollars, and
devoted exclusively to their uso, by which
ships are frequently boarded at the dis
tance of fifty, and sometimes one hund
red miles from the city. All the arrange -
ments es the establishment are upon the
most liberal scale of expeuse, and possess
an efficiency which constitutes the Jour
of Commerce, issued as it is, twice a day,
decidedly the best channel es news, both
Political and Commercial, which can be
found in this citv. Full accounts of news
received by foreign arrivals at this port
are frequently seat off tiveuty-foer hours
before the Merchants’ letters by the same
vessels are placed in the Pest-Office.
In the present critical st«te of the
markets, which there is every reason to
believe will continue at least fur some
months, merchants throughout the coun
try will find this the cheapest and most
complete correspondence which can pos
sibly be established.
{£7* During the winter, when the Nor

so that subscribers receive a morning and
evening paper alternately giving them the
news throughout the year to the latest
possible hour.

65 feet wide, and ou the East by Campbell-street,
