The Cincinnati Engrdrtr says: “ On
Wednesday afternoon, two Sisters ot
Charity, wuo had been in oharge of the
one hundred orphans which arrived from
Chicago in the morning, accompanied by
two prominent citizens, called upon
Mayor Davis, to obtaiu pomes for the
Sisters to return to the city of Chicago.
The Mayor hesitated for a considerable
timo in granting their request; but, be
ing nrged by the gentlemen accompany
ing tho Sisters, he finally concluded to
issue passes tor their return. But to
show the spirit animating our worthy
Mayor, it is only necessary to give the
reading of the pass, as follows: ‘Pass
these two CaihnUa to Chicago.' Being
thus insulted, tho Sisters and their es
cort retired. The pass was shown at the
Arohbiahop’s residence, when the afore
said document was placed in an envelope
and politely returned to Mayor Davis.”
Congressman J. D. Beck reports to the
Louisville Ledger that the result of the
Kuklux Committee's investigation at
Huntsville, wns a complete vindication
of the false charges made by her ene
mies. General Crawford, the United
States District Attorney and Commis
sioner, and leading men of both parties
concur that no State in the Union ex
hibits a more satisfactory, law-abiding
and peaceable condition. Even isolated
cases of disorders were substantiated
only by men who, for two dollars s day,
would swear to anything.
Gen. J. D. Imboden, a distinguished
Confederate officer, in an article on “Re-
minesccnoes of Lee and Jackson," pub
lished in tho Galaxy for November, in
speaking of Gen. Lee, says
Were it not for my aversion to contro
versy, I would here present what I have
reason to believe—though I do not affirm
that I know positively—was his plan of
the famous campaign of 1868, ending in
the disaster to us at Gettyabarg. I know
enough, however, to express the convic
tion that the plan ot that campaign was
not executed, and farther, that in my

Dent It of Hon. Robert Jemlaon.
This distinguished Alabamian died at
his residence, in Tuscaloosa, on the 16th
inst. He commenced his career as a
stage driver, then became contractor,
and thus amassed a large fortune. Far
many years he waa an honored Reprwwn-
tativo of his county in both hransftes of
the Legislature, end was a Senator in
the Confederate States Congress during
the war. He was prominent, not only in
the political history, but was an active
participant in every movement calculated
to build up the material prosperity of the
