At a meeting of the carpenters and j in-
ers of America at Pensacola Monday night
last, resolutiuns were offered end earned

From President Rounsaville’s report of
the Rome Library association it appears I
that there are 3200 volumes on the shelves; j
325 members are enrolled and there is a

year, and the library is in a prosperous con

At Buford, Thursday, v. liilc Miss Annie j
Lee Garner and Miss Bradley, of Atlanta,
who is stopping at the Garner house, were
taking their morning walk, they discover
ed a snake near the town line. They con
cluded. to give him battle, and armed I
themselves with rocks and sticks and
rli,urged upon him, and continued to fire
until he was entirely dead. They then
brought him to town. After the yardstick j
was applied to him he proved to be seven i
feet long and of the coachwhip species.

dead, and nearly all died young, compara
tively. Major II. J. G. Williams, who was
with Governor Brown, is the only surviv
ing ex-secretary of ex-department in the
period mentioned above, and the major
nos for years been confined to his bed.
The will of the late Henry Todd, col
ored, of Darien, has been opened. He be
queaths his entire estate and revenues to
his wife during her natural life. At her
deatli the estate shall be converted into
cash. Five hundred dollars of the money
shall be spent in purchasing a hell for the
colored. Baptist church. A sufficient
amount shall also Ire appropriated for the
erection of a school for colored children.
The balance is to be distributed as follows :
Ten per cent, to the white Presbyterian
church, five per cent, to the. white Episco
pal church, five per cent, to the white
Methodist church, ten per cent, to the col
ored Baptist church, ten per cent, five
per cent, eacbi to the two colored Metho
dist churches, five per cent, to the colored
Episcopal church, five per cent, to the l
white school in Darien, five per cent, to i
the colored school in Darien, twenty-five 1
per cent, to his hrother-in-law, Frank j
Cardone, twenty-five per cent, apportion- j
ed to relatives in St, Augustine and Jack- ;
sonville, Fla. The wealth of the deceased j
is estimated at from |100,000 to £126,000.

Eufaula Times : Young America tire com- j

Wadsworth on Saturday was the scene of
much excitement caused by the shooting by
one Buckhannon of two negroes living at
Cole’s switch, about two miles below that
place. White men, and blacks of both
sexes, turned oul in considerable numbei*s
with guns, clubs, etc.,and diligently sought
the fugitive, but as yet he is still at large.
