QUADRUPED PATHOLOGY
FOR HUMAN THERAPEUTICS
London, April 2.—The worship of
•logs and cats by members of English
society has evolved a new profession
for women. Two guineas a week, with
residence and board, can bo earned by
nurses skilled In the care of sick ani
mals.
There Is a training school for such
nurses In London, where certificates
are graded to appointed pupils after six
months’ experience, and those holding
them do not seem to experience any
difficulty In obtaining occupations. It
Is contended that women make much
better animal nurses than men, and
some who have undergone training In
the London hospitals have abandoned
human theapeautlcs for pathology of
the quadruped.

from the sea. High waves have been

The fire department has been called
out to Vedado, where the water Is re
ported to be endangering lives. The
men are searching the property along
the sea front and rescuing those In

the oar traffic between Havana and
Vedado.
.The waves are breaking oyer the
Moro castle light house, sometimes
completely hiding It from view. The
transport Sumner was scheduled to sail
today, but her departure was delayed
because of the heavy sea. An uniden
tified British steamer has been stand
ing off the entrance to the harbor for
twleve hours, It being too dangerous
for her to attempt to enter until the
sea subsides. Thousands of persons are
at the water front watching the scene,
which Is grandly magnificent.

She Has Been Cured But
Continues Nutri-
cating.
New York, April 2.-*-A puzzling caze
Is under observation In the reception
hospital in this city. The patient Is a
woman, a cool;, apparently In perfect
health, but she Is detained because she
Is suspected of having communicated
typhoid to about twenty-live persons,
within the past six years. According
to Dr. Walter Benzel, the sanitary su
perintendent of Manhattan, the woman
Is literally a living typhoid factory. She
herself was stricken with the disease
about six years ago. It ran the ulcers
and recovered. Now It Is found that
In all that time she was declared cured
of typhoid she has kept on nucleating
and developing typhoid germs. Though
herself Immune, the germs which she
has been developing have been a con
stant source of danger and contagion
to all with whom she has come In con-
tact. Suspicion was attracted to the
woman and typhoid appeared In various
families where she" was employed, and
when she was taken to the hospital the
suspicion was contlrmed through the
culture test. .
