Wilmington, N. C\, July 10.—But for
tho prompt und heroic action of Mrs.
Mary Rntley, wife of Section Master
H. Hatley, and her daughter, Annie
Rntley, a fatal wreck would have oc
curred on the Atlantic and Yadkin
branch of the Atlantic Coast Line rail
road.
After vainly battling with a fire
which was destroying a trestle, eleven
miles west of Wilmington, they ran up
the road, flagged an approaching train,
which came to a standstill 50 feet from
the trestle.

tics. Orders to that effect have reached
Atlanta from the office of the attorney
general In Washington, and slmilur
orders have been sent to other district
attorneys nil over the country.
A letter of this kind has Just been re
ceived by District Attorney F. Carter
Tate anti Its contents have been com
municated to the other officials In the
office In Atlanta. While the letter does
not apply particularly to Atlanta, tt Is
said that the decision to send Instruc
tions of this kind all over the country
wus the result of active political work
by office-holders In the North.
Although the officials here have not
been mixing in politics, the letter puts
them on notice that such actions are
not In favor In Washington.

Columbus, Ga.. July 10.—At a stormy
meeting of the Board of Trade Monday
night twenty members withdrew from
the hall on the passage of jhe resolu
tion to the legislature against prohibi
tion. The test vote showed 21 for to 20
against the resolution. The ’’antis,
seeing no showing under ruling of
President Loewenhera, withdrew.
The resolution was then adopted by
the meeting.
