Dysitfpsia and Liver Complaint, Nervous Diseases,
Dropsical Swellings, Constitutional Disorders and
diseases originaling from a depraved or Impure
state of the Blood or oilier fluids of the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative would raort re
spectfully assure the public that he has not offered
this preparation ro their notice without due reflec
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until after
twelve years’ experience had manifested its
superiority over every other article of the kind
and he now recommends it with confidence u
believing that the above combination of met ten*
will effectually eradicate from the system a class
of disease soma of which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of
disease and with unparalleled success, especially
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.
C&ncer and Cancerous Tumors.
He has used this preparation in upwards c'f twen

entire success.

He has presdribed'tvm over 's, hundred cases of
•'nitre, and il has never failed in a .single instance
To completely remove the disease. Not a solitary
case of failure. All were cured.
The success he has met with in curing broncho
cele and cancerous affections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be
removed with as much certainty as lever and
A-me. He does not wish to be understood as say
ing that they can be cured as soon as Fever and
A rue, but wiih asmuch certainly; and further, that
htThas good reason for believing that this prepara
tion will not only nire these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
s, class of diseases, as well as that ofscrofulaemanalc.
Scrofula —King’s Evil.
This preparation has been usefftn numerous cases

Rheumatism.
- This preparation has been prescribed in a greet
many cases of chronic rheumaisra, and in every
case in which it was used until the system became
® 'affiled by the medicine, the disease was removed 1
Gout.
X number of cases of gout have been cured by
this preparation. In one of these cases, the man
had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
fo>- five mouths immediately previous to I.is taking
the Alterative he had been confined to his room;
but before he had finished the third bottle, lie was
enabled to walk abouftlie streets and soon after re
turned to his basinets, from which he hud so long
*beea excluded by life'afflictions.
Dropsical Swellings*
Thisraediciue increases the powers of digestion,
excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all
■unnatural enlargements are reduced. U imparts
■tone and vitality to the whole system, removing
sick and morbid headaches,giJcit.ess, wardering
pains and nervous affections. .
In fact, in every case w here tne medicine has
been taken fur some time, no matter for what pur
pose, the general health ol the patient has always
‘been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
of the mast astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, bronehocele ,and scrofula, have been cured hy
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
"want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
ion ait this time.
CANCER.
jin interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the ri-ht breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter
Stretch, of Salem, N. J. It was examined by many
Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous,
a.nd besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation ot eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by L)r.
John Rhea Barton, assisted bv Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three months, afterendiiring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards office ye-ars after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previous toils removal. This tumor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprived her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and svirrhus, and
a hard, irregular, and at limes painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest lliedisease. Indeed her whole body appear
.edto be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
both her parents having died of Pulmonary con
sumption. The experiment was now made with
tliis Alterative. It was at first given in small
doses, three times a day, and the doses very gradu
ally, but steadily increased daily, as long as she
took it, which was about six months, and tlie skin
over and around the tumour was wet night and
morning with a strong solution of lodine and Hy
driodiiie iirtpwii. The tumour continued increas
ing in size for about six weeks, and vva.s at times
very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased alto
gether, and the tumour swelled out at the base, and
became soft, and then began to diminish, and con
tinued gradually decreasing until every vestige of
disease was removed. The tumour in her left'
breast, and those in her right axilla were also dis
persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever
appeared afterwards; and her general health, which
had been so bad for fourteen years as to make life a
burthen, was efTecmally and permanently restored.
The proprietor is in possession of the. diseased
breast, and those who choose may examine it. He
would also say that he could mention over a dozen
cases equally interesting, wherein his Alterative
has subdued canceraud eanceroustumours.buthe
bgs not room hereto record them.
*- Mrs, Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J.,
ad a goitrous tumour on the left side of her wind
pipe, as large as the half of an orange, which was
cored by using this Alterative for about four
months.
Miss R—~— S —-.South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia. was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
chill and breast-bone, and extended around on
each side of her ueck to behind her ears, and from
her ears to her shoulders, and produced awful de
formity. It commenced growing when she was
but five years old, and coniiuued gradually to in
erease until she was nineteen, at which time she
commenced usingthis Alterative, which she took
for seven months, w hich entirely reduced the en
largement; and she has now as smooth and pretty
a neck as can be found. The proprietor is not at
dberty to give her name in print, but will refer per.

“NOTICE TO COTTON PLANTERS.
IWTLrL say to the cotton planters of Georgia and ■
South i arolina. T have taken the shop form
! erly occupied by S. R. Crenshaw, for the purpose
pf mauufucdufiug COT TON GINS, and would
i also inform them that I have engaged Mr. Creu
j shaw, who will superintend the manufacturing of
i them. My gins shall he made of the best m.v- ;
| terials, and I can say with propriety they are the
j cheapest gins sold in the Southern Stales, taking
the workmanship in consideration. I will war
rant ray gins to make cotton equal to any made on
any other gins in the Southern States, giving the
true staple of the cotton ahn making it perfectly
free of knap and clear of moats. My gins will be
delivered at the purchaser’s residence free of
charge and warranted to give ample satisfaction,
t All orders addressed to the subscriber will meet
with prompt attention; repairing done in good siyle
and at short notice. All old gins of Iff inch saws
1 will repair and pul them on improved principles,
and also warrant them to make as good cotton as !
any of the improved-gins, and at a much less cost ,
than a new gin. J. D. lIA3IMACK.
Crawfordville, Ga., May 4. j
I will say to the planters who may favor Mr.
ilarnmack with their patronage I will exert all the
ability I have in superintending tlie shop; and
every gin sent from the shop shall be in complete
order, and warranted to be the cheapest gins ever
offered to the public : and from my long experi
ence in the business, I know the gins cannot be
surpassed, although agents from oilier shops have
resorted to the contemptible praclfce ol slandering j
me and saying my gins have prostrated me, though
it is not true. In full confirmation of w hat I say, j
1 offer a few certificates Irom gentlemen who j
have used my gins and could furnish many more j
of this kind, if require .
S. R. Crenshaw. j
| Dear Sir. 1 have used the Gin bought of you j
fur two years and 1 very cheerfully recommend il
1 to the Colton planters of Oglethorpe and oilier
I counties of Georgia. It turns off sufficiently fast
to make good Colton —it being 50 saws—will throw
I out about 80(J lb. of lint a day. The quality of the
, Cotton has in Augusta ranged 'hah' Ceril higher at
: each of my sales than other sales of those days, and
i it has been pronounced by those considered corn-
I peteat to judge—as in no way inferior to the Cava
i Gin. Yours very respectfully,
F. MekkiWETHER.

Oglethorpe County, April 22, 1847.
1 have used fur the last three years a machine
that was made by S. R. Crenshaw, of Craw ford
ville. I consider it one of the best Gins I have
ever seen. Two small mules will gin, with a '
great ileal of ease, three bales per day, and ! do not i
*thmk there is a gin in Georgia that can excel it iu
making fine cotton. In fact, .Mr. Crenshaw has
sold a great many gins*in tliis comity and Elbert, ;
and I think that every man who lias purchased is !
i perfectly satisfied. All of his gins which have
been sold in this county, and they are not a lew, ;
run light, pick fast, and what is better tha-a all,
w-kefi the cotton is carried to market it sells for the j
very highest price. C. S. Merriwether. j

Mr.J. I). Hammack — l certify that I bought of
S. R.Creßshaw, last year, a forty-five saw ami- ;
friction Cotton Gin, which performs well and
makes as good cotton as the Carver Gins, in my
j opinion. P. G Rjiome.
This is to certify that I purchased one of Mr. S.
R. Crenshaw’s improved anti-friction Cotton Gins
last year, and find it to he superior to any Gin 1
have ever used. 1 think it superior to the Carver
Gins. It makes superior cotton, giving the true
staple of the article, and gins 9UO lbs. of clean cot
i ton per day, and runs very light.

Tarrytown, Aug. 9, 1R44.
DearDector—llls difficult to lint! words to express the
gratitude which t feel towards yon for the interest you
have taken to relieve me in my distress. In the year
1812 I contracted a heavy cold, w hich finally settled on i
my lungs; in a few mouths after I commenced coughing I
and raising offensive matter, which smelt very bad. i
Having heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a |
cough 1 tried afCw boxes of them, hut they bad not the
least effect on me. I then called in the bestphysiciau in the
place, who attended me a few months, but without site
cess; I then saw an advertisement in one of the ciry
papersof VVistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which 1
purchased three bottles, at thecorner of F ulton and Nas- j
sau streets, but I could not perceive the least beneficial |
effect from it, op. the contrary I think it was a great in- |
jury to me. Shortly after using it I commenced raising ■
] blood in largo quanti ties; I was taken down sick and 1
j confined to the house for three months, during which j
! time 1 lost my appetite and fell away very fast; 1 was
i then induced to consult Dr. Curtis of New York, (one of
the best physicians in the city,) but he could do me uo
good- I again became worse, and was confined to the
house all lust winter and spring, and I gave up all hope of ,
OTcrgetitng any better, as I again raised biooa ana my j
cough was very severe, together with a pain in ray breast i
and uuderthe shoulder blade. Mv friends mow gave up
all hope ol 1 my recovering, and thonghtevery day was j
tlicl-ast. About this tune I heard of your BALSAM OF !
LIVERWORT being good for consumption, but 1 w as
like many others, •'•wJ was fearful that it might be a regu- I
lur humbug; I however finally consented to try it, as I ,
thought it could make me no worse. My brother then !
purchased a buttle of il at 375 Bowery, N. Y.. and I com- )
. inenced taking it, and by the time I had used one bottle
full I could sleep all night, and in the morning Iliad an
appetite for my breakfast. I still keep on taking il and 1
find great benefit from it—the pain iu uiy breast isontire 1
lygone.aud I raive no more blood. Within the last two
mpwthsl have gained in weight six pounds and much iu
streng h. I would therefore advise all who have any j
