CASE # 14-CV-2397-06.++
NOTICE OF SUMMONS
TO: Renika Brundage, Eddie John
son a/k/a Edwin Johnson and any
other male person claiming a parent
al relation to the child. The mother of
the above referenced child is Renika
Brundage. The alleged biological
father of the above referenced child
is believed to be Eddie Johnson a/k/a
Edwin Johnson.
YOU ARE FURTHER NOTIFIED that
a petition for termination of parental
rights in regard to the above refer
enced child was filed in the Juvenile
Court of Cobb County, Georgia, on
the 2nd day of July, 2014, and that by
reason of an Order for service by
publication entered by the court on
the 4th day of September, 2014.
YOU ARE HEREBY COMMANDED
AND REQUIRED to appear before
the Juvenile Court of Cobb County,
Georgia, in Marietta, Georgia, on the
12th day of November, 2014, at
9:00 o’clock a.m. The hearing is for
the purpose of determining whether
parental rights should be terminated.
The effect of a termination judgment
as set forth under under O.C.G.A. 15-
11-284 includes the following: Geor
gia law provides that you (i.e., a par
ent) can permanently lose your rights
as a parent. A petition to terminate
parental rights has been filed re
questing the juvenile court of Cobb
County, Georgia, to terminate your
parental rights to your child (i.e., the
above child). If you fail to appear at
the hearing on the petition for termin
ation of parental rights, then the court
can terminate your parental rights in
your absence. If the court at the trial
finds that the facts set out in the peti
tion are true and that termination of
your rights will serve the best in
terests of your child, the court can
enter a judgment ending your rights
to your child. If the judgment termin
ates your parental rights, you will no
longer have any rights to your child.
This means that you will not have the
right to visit, contact, or have cus
tody of your child or make any de
cisions affecting your child or your
child's earnings or property. Your
child will be legally freed to be adop
ted by someone else. Even if your
parental rights are terminated, you
will still be responsible for providing
financial support (child support pay
ments) for your child's care unless
and until your child is adopted and
your child can still inherit from you
unless and until your child is adopted.
The petition which seeks to termin
ate your parental rights is a very seri
ous matter and it is suggested that
you contact an attorney immediately
so that you can be prepared for the
court hearing on such petition. You
have the right t hire an attorney and
to have the attorney represent you. If
you cannot afford to hire an attorney,
then the juvenile court of Cobb
County, Georgia, will appoint an at
torney to represent you if the court
finds that you are an indigent person.
Whether or not you decide to hire an
attorney or seek appointed counsel,
you have the right to attend the hear
ing on such petition, to call wit
nesses on your behalf, and to ques
tion those witnesses brought against
you.
A copy of the petition to terminate
parental rights may be obtained from
the clerk of the Juvenile Court of
Cobb County Georgia, which is loc
ated at 32 Waddell Street, Marietta,
Cobb County, Georgia 30090, during
regular business hours, Monday
through Friday, 8:00 a.m., until 5:00
p.m., exclusive of holidays. A free
copy shall be available to you. Upon
request to the clerk, the copy will be
mailed to you. The child is in the
present temporary custody of the De
partment of Family and Children Ser
vices of Cobb County, Georgia.
The general nature of the allegations
is that parental responsibilities and
obligations owed to said child have
been effectively abandoned.
YOU ARE FURTHER NOTIFIED that
while responsive pleadings are not
mandatory they are permissible and
you are encouraged to file with the
clerk of this court and serve upon pe
titioner’s attorney, Sanders B. Deen,
272 Washington Avenue, Marietta,
Georgia 30060, an answer or other
responsive pleading within sixty (60)
days of the date of the order for ser
vice by publication.
All concerned parties are informed
that they are entitled to have an attor
ney represent them and if a party re
quests appointed counsel and quali
fies for such appointment, then the
court will appoint counsel at no cost if
the party is unable, without financial
hardship, to employ counsel.
Witness the Honorable Jeffrey D.
Hamby, Judge of said court.
