Carlos Eduardo Morales
Gallardo was charged with
murder in the death of Nico
las Morales Garcia, which
occurred in Brookhaven on
Nov. 28.
According to Brookhaven

Nino, officers responded
to reports of a shooting at
Esquire Apartments at 3102
Buford Highway on Nov. 28.
They found Morales Garcia
with a single gunshot wound.
“Officers rendered first
aid while other officers be
gan to search the area for
the shooter,” Nino said.
“Brookhaven police detectives
and crime scene investigators
responded to the scene and
began their investigation.”
Nino said a sketch of the
suspect was made using wit

“Detectives were able to
identify the suspect as Mo
rales Gallardo based on the
many tips and leads that were
received as a result of the
sketch,” Nino said.
Detectives learned that
the suspect and victim were
relatives, and said that the
shooting was the result of an
ongoing dispute, according to
Nino.
“The quick outcome of
this investigation was made
possible by the community
and family’s involvement as
well as the hard work of the
detectives assigned to this
case,” Brookhaven Police
Chief Gary Yandura said.
“Community partnerships
like this will continue to build
a safer Brookhaven and re
duce crime in our area.”
FODAC launches campaign
drive for new delivery
truck
Friends of Disabled
Adults and Children (FO
DAC), a nonprofit organiza
tion providing more than $10
million annually in home
medical equipment and sup
plies to those living with
disabilities, has launched a
campaign to raise funds for
a new delivery truck. An
anonymous donor has com
mitted to matching funds
up to $30,000, doubling the
amount raised for the vehicle,
which will be used to pick up
donated equipment from col
lection sites and deliver refur
bished equipment to FODAC
clients.
“Our trucks are an in
tegral part of FODAC s op
erations,” said Chris Brand,
president and CEO of the or
ganization. “Adding an addi
tional truck will increase our
ability to pick up more often
from our 29 collection sites,
and serve our clients more
quickly. FODAC trucks bring
more than equipment to our
clients-they deliver hope, in
dependence and freedom.”
The donor has committed
the matching funds until Dec.
31. Those wishing to donate
to the truck campaign can do
so through www.fodac.org.

Anti-overdose drug
used during medical
emergency
On Dec. 2, when Dun-
woody Police officers re
sponded to The Drexel
Apartments in reference to a
welfare check, they located a
male lying on the ground un
conscious and unresponsive.
Based on evidence at the
scene, officers suspected the
man might be a victim of an
overdose. Department-issued
Evzio Naloxone, a hand-held
auto-injector to reverse opioid
overdose, was administered to
the unconscious manby Sgt.
Robert Parsons. Once emer
gency personnel arrived on
scene, the man was provided
an additional round of Evzio
Naloxone.
The male was transported
to a local hospital for treat
ment where he tested positive
for opioids.
“Due to Sgt. Parsons’
quick response and action by
administering Evzio Nalox
one, the male is expected to
make a full recovery,” accord
ing to a statement from the
police department. “Ironi
cally, Sergeant Parsons initi
ated the department’s effort to
secure the devices.”
The Dunwoody Police
Department recently began
carrying Evzio Naloxone after
receiving a grant from Kaleo
Pharmaceutical Company. All
officers were issued the life
saving single-use auto-injec-
tor after completing training
in October and this incident
was the first time the device
was used.
According to the CDC, 66
people a day die from opioid
based in the United States.
