Be an informed voter
“The process of election affords a
moral certainty, that the office of president
will never fall to the lot of any man who is
not in an eminent degree endowed with
the requisite qualifications.—Alexander
Hamilton, a Founding Father of the Unit
ed States, chief aide to President George
Washington and first secretary of the U.S.
Treasury.
What began as a huge field of Demo
cratic and Republican hopefuls has now
come down to the presumed nominees
being Donald Trump on the Republican
side and Hillary Clinton on the Demo
cratic side.
Clinton, a career politician who has
solid experience as secretary of state, state
senator and first lady, is often maligned
for her actions during the Benghazi
hearings, for email security issues, for
being a politician in general and being part
of the so-called political establishment
and therefore assumed to be bought and
corrupt. Clinton is no doubt an intelligent
and tough woman who has the hutzpah to
stand up to the pressures of criticism and
keep fighting. For that alone, the woman
deserves a certain amount of kudos.
Trump, who for decades has been in
the spotlight for his business ventures—
both failed and successful, has no political
experience. He is criticized for his less
than politically correct outspokenness on
social, gender and racial issues; his often-
brash behavior and flamboyant ways—
not to mention his hair! He is referred
to as vile and disgusting by many, but
he has seemingly demonstrated to the
Republican establishment that the people
want change and are willing to take their
chances on a candidate who does not fit
the typical mold of a commander-in-chief.
Trump is accused of not being
conservative enough by many
Republicans and sexist, racist and
narcissistic by many Democrats. Clinton is
accused of being too liberal and dishonest
by many of the conservative persuasion.
Whomever you choose to support, The
Champion encourages you to participate
in the process. While our nation chooses
our next president, we will also be electing
many on the local level whose actions
affect our daily lives in many ways more
so than those at the national level do.
We encourage you to do your research
on issues that are important to you and
cast an informed vote.
