Photo by Carla Parker by Horace Holloman horace@dekalbchamp.com A fter months of a back-and-forth battle for the District 4 Commission seat, Stephen Bradshaw sat among family and friends at the Village Corner restaurant victorious. Bradshaw unseated incumbent Sharon Barnes Sutton in a runoff election July 26, defeating Sutton with 79 percent of the votes. More than 100 Bradshaw supporters came to congratulate the newly-elected commissioner. “It feels wonderful. I’m gratified by the overwhelming show of support and I’m happy that we took the high road and I think people appreciated that we took the high road,” Bradshaw said. Jones defeated consultant Rhonda Taylor with 54 percent of votes in the July 26 run-off election. Taylor received 46 percent. Jones will take on Republican nominee Carl Anuszczyk, CEO of Jackpot Software Inc., in the November election. Former District 92 Rep. Tonya P. Anderson will take on incumbent Sen. Janice Van Ness for the District 43 seat in November. Anderson defeated Dee Dawkins- Haigler, who represented House District 91 from 2008 to 2016, in the run off with 50.05 percent of votes. Johnson received 62.2 percent of the vote with all precincts reporting whereas Susannah Scott received 37.8 percent. “It feels great,” Johnson said Tuesday night. “Now it’s time to move on and continue doing the work of the tax commissioner and tax office. I thank my constituents for their votes and good race.” Johnson congratulated his opponent, Scott, for a good and clean contest. Johnson ran a campaign promising continued innovation and ease at the tax commissioner’s office, touting his accomplishments in the form of self-serving kiosks and public tax bill seminar sessions.
