Tucker wins tennis region championships

The Tucker Tigers swept the Region
4-AAAAAA tennis championships for
the second consecutive year.
The boys'and girls'teams won
the region titles April 12 at Clayton
County International Tennis Center.
The boys defeated Drew, Forest
Park and Jonesboro high schools
on the way to the region title. The
Tigers dominated their first two
opponents but found themselves
in a battle against Jonesboro in the
championship match.
Tucker beat Jonesboro 5-0, but
senior Shawn Lunde was in a close
No. 1 singles match. After a back
and forth match, Lunde won the
No. 1 singles title in two sets and
cliched the region title for Tucker.
Junior Usman Jamal won his No.
2 singles match in straight sets, as
well as senior Malik Shakir in No. 3
singles. The No. 1 doublesteam of
senior Revaz Sharma and sophomore
Carter Foley and the No. 2 doubles
team of junior Ben Shaver and junior
Justin Thornton won their matches
in straight sets.
The girls defeated Mt. Zion,
Mundy's Mill and Forest Park to
win the region title.The girls, who
entered the region tournament
as a No. 1 seed, swept Forest Park
5-0 in the championship match.
Autumn Clemons, Daelyn Turner
and Summer Clemons all won
their singles matches, as well as the
doubles teams of seniors Kelsey
Hayes and Sarah Penkava (No. 1
doubles) and junior Jade Wurapa and
freshman Trinyty Turner.

Stephenson, Tucker
splits regional series

Tucker remains at the top of
region 4-AAAAAA after splitting a
series with Stephenson April 13 and
16.
Stephenson won the first game
6-4 at home and Tucker won the
second matchup at home 6-4. Tucker
improved its record to 16-10 (13-2
in region) and Stephenson is third in
the region with a 10-4 record (14-10-
1 overall).
Stephenson closed the regular
season with two games against
region opponent Mundy's Mill, and
Tucker closed the regular season
against North Atlanta April 17. Scores
were not available by press time.
