DOGS SHOW
UP AND
SHOW OUT
BY DEREK SMITH

Some dogs jumped
through hoops and did frisbee
tricks, while others rolled
in the mud June 2 at the
fourth annual “Bark in the
Park” at Brookhaven Park in
Brookhaven.
Area residents were
encouraged to bring their dogs
to the park for the three-hour
event. Several vendors were
on hand selling items such as
pet safety gear and custom
jeweled leashes and collars, but
the central attraction was The
Dynamo Dogs, a travelling dog
trick show led by trainer Gail
Mirabella.
Mirabella said she has
travelled with a group of skilled
dogs for more than 10 years.
Her website lists appearances
on The Late Show with David
Letterman, The Tonight Show
with Jay Leno, Good Morning
America and The Today Show.
She said she has appeared most
recently on the latest season of
the reality series The Bachelor.
Mirabella’s dogs performed
a series of agility-based tricks
featuring frisbees, hoops and
platforms while at Bark In The
Park.
Animal adoptions were
offered by Best Friends Animal
Society and Lifeline Animal
Project hosted an information
booth.
Best Friends representative
Meredith Bowen said the
organization is a nationwide
society with centers in Los
Angeles, Salt Lake City, New
York and Atlanta. The Atlanta
center is in Cobb County
near Smyrna, but the mobile
adoption truck brings pets
in need of homes to areas
throughout the metro area.
“The truck was created
originally for mobile adoptions
in Los Angeles, and it came
to us in April because their
program wasn’t as necessary
anymore,” Bowen said. “They’re
focusing on some other things
for life-saving and adoptions
in L.A., so we brought it here
to get out in the community
more.”
According to Bowen, Best
