OUMA celebrating 25 years
Oglethorpe University Museum of Art
(OUMA) celebrates its 25th anniversary this
summer by exhibiting more than 100 works
from its permanent collection through Sept.
16. Included are numerous works acquired by
founding director Lloyd Nick, which illustrate the
permanent collection's long-standing strength
in the areas of 19th century French art, as well
as works of art from the Far East. More recent
acquisitions illustrate the museum's developing
strength in the field of nineteenth and twentieth-
century American art.
Admission is $5 for adults, free for
members, children younger than 12, and OU
students with a Petrel Pass. Flours areTuesday-
Sunday noon to 5 p.m., Wednesdays noon to
8 p.m. The museum is closed Mondays and
university holidays.

'Community dialogue'to be held June 20 and
21
The city of Chamblee wants residents to
join the "Community Dialogue" about their
neighborhood at two interactive listening
sessions. The focus of these meetings is on
neighborhoods, development and sustainability.
The June 20 meeting will be held at the North
DeKalb Senior Center, 3393 Malone Dr.
The June 21 meeting will be held at St. Pius X
Catholic High School Cafeteria, 2674 Johnson Rd
NE. Both meetings begin at 6 p.m., are scheduled
to last three hours and are open to all Chamblee
residents.
Urban redevelopment area-related sessions
during on June 20 will focus on development
opportunities for the Savoy Drive and Chamblee
Tucker Road/Buford Highway intersection areas,
the June 21 meeting will focus on the Shallowford
Road/Interstate 85 intersection and Dresden Park
areas.
Participants may attend one or both sessions.
Food from local restaurants will be served.

DUNWOODY
Fourth of July Parade details announced
On Wednesday, July 4 at 9 a.m., the Dunwoody
Homeowners Association and the Dunwoody Crier
Newspaper will host the annual Fourth of July
Parade featuring marching bands, floats, clowns,
animal units and local celebrities. Last year the
parade attracted more than 2,500 participants and
32,000 spectators.
The parade route is two miles, starting at the
intersection of Mount Vernon Road and Jett Ferry
Road at 9:00 a.m., then proceeds west on Mount
Vernon Road to Dunwoody Village, then onto
Dunwoody Village Parkway.
Parade spectators are encouraged to set up
chairs along Mount Vernon Road and Dunwoody
Village Parkway. Spectators will be blocked from
viewing the parade on the east side of Jett Ferry
Road on Mount Vernon Road due to the staging
and setup for parade participants. Viewing will
start on the west side of Jett Ferry Road on Mount
Vernon Road.
Mt. Vernon Road, between Jett Ferry Road and
Dunwoody Village, will be closed from 8:40 a.m.
to 11:40 a.m. (times are approximate; contact
Dunwoody Police Department about road
closures and traffic information.)
STONE MOUNTAIN
Tunes by the Track performers announced
Donna Hopkins and Ralph Roddenbery will
perform June 22 at Stone Mountain's Tunes by the
Track series. The free concert will be held at 922
Main Street near the gazebo from 7 to 9 p.m. For

Father's Day fishing at Arabia Lake
Families are welcome to spend quality time
together in nature with Ranger Meredith for a
leisurely one-mile hike to Arabia Lake, June 17,
from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring gear if possible; rods
and bait will be provided for those who don't
bring their own. Bring plenty of water and dress
for the weather; snacks will be provided. Davidson-
Arabia Mountain Nature Center is located at 3787

United Methodist Children's Home flea market
announced
The United Methodist Children's Home
(UMCH) will host a flea market June 16 from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds of the sale of donated
items will help UMCH reach more children and
families in crisis in new communities across north
Georgia.The flea market includes an array of
items including furniture, electronics, clothing,
art, collectibles, jewelry, toys, books, glassware,
flatware, appliances, decorative items, sporting
goods, and many other objects and conversation
pieces. UMCH is located at 1967 Lakeside

Curbside pickup being offered
As part of the Operation Spring Clean Sweep
2018 campaign, DeKalb County Sanitation will
offer free bulky item curbside collection every
Friday and Saturday in June.
Residents have an opportunity to place bulky
items, including furniture and appliances, curbside
for collection by sanitation. Collection schedules
are based on residents'designated sanitation
collection service day.
Residential customers whose regularly
scheduled collection day is Tuesday will be
serviced on June 15, and June 16.
Residential customers whose regularly
scheduled collection day is Wednesday will be
serviced on June 22 and June 23.
Residential customers whose regularly
scheduled collection day is on Thursday will be
serviced June 29 and June 30.
For any missed collections based on this
schedule, residents should call (404) 294-2900 to
be placed on a bulky item collection escalation list.

DeKalb looking for a few good men, women
DeKalb County Police Department will host a
job fair to hire additional police officers, June 23.
The event will take place at police headquarters in
Tucker at 1950 West Exchange Place.
The event is hosted by DeKalb County Police
Background and Recruitment Unit. The job fair will
take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Background detectives will conduct pre
screening interviews and human resources
applications. Computer stations will be available
for applicants wishing to complete the online
application.
Participants attending the event who have
already completed an application will be
scheduled for a physical agility test.
DeKalb Police will also showcase officers from
different units to give potential employees an idea
of career opportunities the department offers.
