on the area and that the actions
of the city are harming trust
with voters.
City officials said they want
to see more of a mixed-use
development in the area, with
some retail and different hous
ing price points.
The city considered the area
on Bramblewood Drive as a
possible site for its new public
safety building before settling
on a lot along the future site of
the Peachtree Creek Greenway.
The Bramblewood area was
also considered by DeKalb
County School District as a
possible site for a new Cross
Keys High School before the
Board of Education voted
to build the school outside
Brookhaven city limits at the
site of the former Briarcliff
High School.
Councilmember Joe Geb-
bia, who represents the area
and who recommended the
deferral, said he did so because
there were a lot of questions
that remained unanswered.
“My objective in doing this
deferral is to make sure this
project does not die,” Gebbia
said. “I want to see a viable
project come out of this, and
this is the best way to do it at
this point. So, that is my ratio
nale.”
