Under the direction of DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Michael Thurmond, DeKalb County CARES Act grant application was submitted on April 14. By April 24, funds totaling $125,341,475 were wire transferred into the county’s bank account and later transferred into the newly created separate interest-bearing account with the state’s Local Government Investment Pool. The county has regularly hosted food giveaways to provide those in need with nutritious food items and has regularly offered personal protection items to the public as well. In times such as these with record unemployment and schools being closed, there are many who are unable to provide their families and loved ones with adequate nutrition or personal protection items such as masks and sanitizers even if they are available for purchase. We appreciate the efforts of county officials and employees who make the effort to provide for those who most in need. PROVIDING FOR THOSE WHO ARE MOST IN NEED
