Friends of Disabled
Adults and Children (FODAC)
will host a veterans home
medical equipment (HME)
repair clinic on Sept. 9 and
Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. until 3
p.m. at 4900 Lewis Road in
Tucker.
FODAC officials said
all registration and repair
fees for wheelchairs,
scooters, walkers, rollators,
and other HME items are
waived for veterans during
these events. Repairs to
be completed include
tires, wheels, footrests,
upholstery, armrests,
seating, joysticks, chargers,
and other electrical parts,
officials said. Batteries
will also be provided as
available, according to a
news release.
Appointments are
available by calling (770)
491-9014 ext. 115. Walk-
ins are welcome but could
experience extended wait
times, according to officials.
FODAC's Director of
Program Development
Christine Fleming said
officials of the organization
hope to bring more veterans
to the upcoming events and
will provide services to any
veteran from Georgia during
these events.
"We're struggling to get
the word out to veterans,"
said Fleming. "We're hoping
that more people hear
about it and know that it's
available at our location."
While FODAC offers
its HME equipment at no
cost, Fleming said batteries
and some replacement
items are provided for a
fee. However, she added
that FODAC received
additional funding which
allows the veterans events
to be expense free. DeKalb
County Commissioner Steve
Bradshaw; Tucker Summit
CID; MK Powered; and
Georgia Tech's Engineering,
Rehabilitation, and Applied
Research Lab are listed as
donors.
"We do repair clinics
at different assisted living
centers across the state, but
it's really nice having the
veterans come in because
it's the one time we don't
have to charge fees," said
Fleming.
FODAC will also host
its golf classic fundraiser
on Oct. 21 at Smoke Rise
Country Club in Stone
Mountain. The event
includes breakfast, 18 holes
of golf, lunch, and a raffle
with proceeds supporting
FODAC's HME program.

fodac.org/golf.
Fleming added that
FODAC is looking for HME
donations. "We need
donations of gently used
equipment that we can
sanitize, refurbish, and
then distribute. We have
tons of people who need
the equipment, it's just a
matter of trying to get those
items donated to us," said
Fleming.
She said FODAC is
working with agencies that
serve the elderly to facilitate
drop off and pick up of
items.
