Atlanta Neighborhood Development
Partnership (ANDP) announced a $500,000
grant from the James M. Cox Foundation to
support its "Closing the Gap" initiative.
ANDP officials said the grant funding
will help expand affordable homeownership
and rental housing opportunities and
investments in small real estate-focused
businesses through the Closing the Gap
initiative - which is a "$440 million plan to
build or preserve 2,000 units of housing in
metro Atlanta by 2025."
The "Closing the Gap" plan includes
what are referred to as affordable
500 single-family homes targeted for
homeownership, 250 single-family rental
homes, and 1,250 apartments. Several of
the housing units are in DeKalb County.
Since the plan's inception in July 2020,
ANDP officials said they have developed
or are in pre-development on 1,110 of
its 2,000 homes and apartments in the
initiative's five-and-a-half-year plan. ANDP
officials added that $11.6 million of the $18
million philanthropic fundraising goal has
also been met.
"Our region's shortfall of affordable
homeownership and rental opportunities
requires an 'all hands-on deck' approach,"
said John O'Callaghan, ANDP president
and CEO. "Today's significant investment
from the James M. Cox Foundation will help
ANDP provide homeownership, related
wealth building, and affordable rental
opportunities at increased scale."
ANDP officials said the non-profit has
developed capital models to leverage
federal, U.S. Treasury funds, tax credits,
impact investments, and other sources.
ANDP also is in the construction and
rehabilitation phase of a plan it began in
2021 that will build 42 affordable single
family homes in Atlanta and South DeKalb.

at least 40 percent of the homes will be
sold to buyers earning 80 percent of the
area median income or less.
"ANDP's partner developers will serve
as co-developers, general contractors, and
sales agents, and the majority of the units

rates to support wealth building through

rates," said Pam McAdams, director of special events
for the nonprofit. "The U.S. surgeon general has warned
that young people are facing devastating mental health
effects as a result of the challenges experienced by
their generation, including the pandemic. Raising funds
through the Skyland Trail 5k will make a difference in the
lives of teens and their families."
Skyland Trail treats adults ages 18 and older and teens
ages 14 to 17. The nonprofit has services that include
psychiatric residential treatment and day treatment for
individuals struggling with mood, thought, and anxiety
disorders, according to Skyland Trail's website.
"Across the adult and adolescent treatment programs,
the integrated treatment model combines strategies to
help clients improve mental health, physical wellness,
social relationships, and school or career success," said
officials.
"Skyland Trail is a nonprofit organization, and
charitable giving from the community helps support many
of these unique therapies," said McAdams. "Charitable
giving also supports a financial aid program that awards
more than $2 million each year to help clients access and
complete treatment. Individuals and businesses support
Skyland Trail through annual gifts as well as through
fundraising events like the Skyland Trail 5k Run/Walk."
The route for the race will begin at the Skyland
Trail J. Rex Fuqua Campus for adolescents in Chamblee
and continues through the surrounding neighborhood
adjacent to Dresden Road.
The Skyland Trail 5k Run/Walk is not a timed or
chipped race.
"Participants are encouraged to create a team with
family, friends, or co-workers," said officials. "This family-
friendly event is open to all. Youth ages 17 and younger
must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Participants
are invited to engage in a fun pre-run/walk warm up as
well as a community art project and selfie station. The
5k will be a fun opportunity to be a part of a community
passionate about supporting people living with mental
health disorders."
The event will be held on Sept. 10. Registration will
begin at 7:30 a.m. and the 5k will at 8:30 a.m. at the
Skyland Trail J. Rex Fuqua Campus for adolescents. Free
parking will be available at the Chamblee Boys and Girls
Club located at 2880 Dresden Drive in Chamblee.
