Apply for homestead exemption
The 2023 deadline to apply for a DeKalb
County homestead exemption is April 1.
Homeowners applying for a basic exemption
must own and occupy the home in DeKalb County
as their primary residence as of January 1, have all
vehicles registered in DeKalb County, and not have
a homestead exemption anywhere else, states the
tax commissioner's website. Special exemptions
are tax savings available for citizens ages 62 and
older, disabled veterans and disabled residents
based on income, stated officials.

Virtual Zumba class offered
Kirkwood-Edgewood Healthy Living Initiative
offers free weekly virtual Zumba classes courtesy
of Turner Monumental AME Church. Classes are
held each Thursday at 6 p.m. online via Zoom.

Free essay contest available to DeKalb students
Elementary students in Dekalb County
enrolled in third, fourth, and fifth grade have until
March 31 to enter Delta Community Credit Union's
essay contest for a chance to win a $100 Delta
Community Youth Savings Account or an alternate
prize.
To enter, students must write an essay of 75
words or fewer describing what they would save
for if saving money was their superpower. Visit

winners will be selected from each grade level and
announced on April 21st.

Walk and talk with the city manager
Community members to discuss whatever
topic interests them. The next Walk and Talk will
be held at 10 a.m. on March 28 at 21S Avondale

Wings of the City photo contest announced
Now through March 31, the Consulate
General of Mexico in Atlanta and the Jorge Marin
Foundation, invite photographers to participate in
the #WingsoftheCityBrookhaven photo contest.
Participants can win a trip to Mexico, a
lithograph by the artist Jorge Marin, and gift
cards from Brookhaven restaurants. For more

Free English classes available
Clarkston Community Center and DeKalb
County Library System provide free online English
language classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
from 9 a.m. to noon.

DECATUR
Soldiers' Angels needs volunteers
Soliders' Angels will host a food distribution
event to help veterans starting at 9 a.m. on March
24. The distribution will be held at the Atlanta VA
Arcadia Clinic located at 250 North Arcadia Avenue
in Decatur.
Volunteers are needed to help during the

Music for all ages offered
Each week at Music Together of Decatur,
babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and grownups
gather for 45 minutes of fun-filled family music
time. Music activities range from lullabies to jam
sessions with child-friendly instruments.

All ages can get active
Registration is now open for various sports
and outdoor activities through Doraville Parks,
Recreation, and Cultural Affairs. Activities include
a newly implemented Smart Start program for
children ages 3 to 7 designed to teach basic skill
building to prepare for various sports; youth and
adult baseball leagues; and "Couch to 5K" training.

Women's History Month murals on display
Throughout March, Women's History Month
murals will be displayed around the fence of Brook
Run Skatepark (4770 North Peachtree Road).
Artists selected for the project include several
prominent Atlanta artists as well as six students
from Dunwoody High School.

Outdoor classes
E.M.B.A.R.C. Youth Farm is hosting multiple
free classes and events including:
• Orchard planting on March 24 at 9:30 a.m.
• Soil testing and sampling on March 25 at 10 a .m.
• Planting for pollinators on March 25 at 10 a.m.
• Nature hiking on April 1 at 9 a.m.

AWARE tours return to Arabia Mountain
Tours of Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue Effort's
facilities, beginning at the base of Arabia
Mountain, will be held every Saturday and Sunday
at 1 p.m.
Arabia Alliance officials said tours last
approximately 30 minutes and are free. Tours
begin at 4158 Klondike Road in Stonecrest.
