Officials in DeKalb County are reacting
to the Fulton County indictment of former
President Donald Trump as well as 18 other
people for their efforts to overturn the 2020
election results in Georgia.
On Aug. 14, the Fulton County District
Attorney's office released "a nearly 100-
page indictment (that) details dozens of acts
by Trump or his allies to undo his defeat,
including beseeching Georgia's Republican
secretary of state to find enough votes for
him to win the battleground state; harassing
an election worker who faced false claims of
fraud; and attempting to persuade Georgia
lawmakers to ignore the will of voters and
appoint a new slate of electoral college
electors favorable to Trump," according to
Associated Press.
On Aug. 15, Congresswoman Nikema
Williams, who represents parts of Atlanta,
Brookhaven, College Park, Decatur, East
Point, Forest Park, Lake City, Morrow and
South Fulton, held a press call with other
officials to "break down the significance and
impact of these new charges and explain
why bringing them to trial promptly is
critical for bolstering American democracy."
"We are here on a dark day for our
democracy," said Williams. "A grand jury in
Fulton County, my home, indicted Donald
Trump because he attempted to overturn
the free and fair election in Georgia. Why
