"This year, we're thrilled to provide 13 advance voting locations strategically placed across the county, giving voters expanded opportunities to vote early," said Smith. "We encourage voters to make a plan to vote and vote early. As part of that plan, be sure to double-check your polling location before you cast your ballot if you are planning to vote on Election Day." Officials will be handing out candy as well as free, blue flashing safety reflectors for kids to wear while trick-or- treating on Halloween night to keep them safe and visible. Photo provided Nonprofit celebrates 25 years of helping refugee and immigrant women BY KATHY MITCHELL FREELANCE REPORTER A quarter of a century ago, a group of refugee and immigrant women living in Georgia got together to form an organization to help other women facing the challenges they had experienced. The result was Refugee Women's Network (RWN), a nonprofit organization headquartered in Decatur that celebrates its 25th anniversary Nov. 2 at Night of Unity, an event designed not only as a fundraiser, but also an opportunity to tell the larger community about the organization and the women it supports. Sushma Barakoti, executive director of Refugee Women's Network, explained that the organization offers a spectrum of services designed "to meet women where they are, whether they have been in the United States three months or 30 years."
