On June 22, 1908, Judge James Aiken
died at his home at Gadsden, Alabama,
after a prolonged illness of nearly five
months. .
NANNETTE VAN LEAR WEBB.
"Safe in the Arms of Jesus."
At the home of her parents, in Roanoke,
Va., on Monday evening, December
28, 1908. Nannette, daughter of Dr. and
Mrs. F. B. Webb, passed into her eternal
rest. Brief services were conducted at
the residence Tuesday morning. Mrs.
Webb, with her brother and s!ster, left
with the body on the 1:15 train for Mossy
Creek, Augusta County, Va., where, in
the old "church yard" lie four generations
of Van Lears.
Rev. John VanLear, Mrs. Webb's grandfather,
was for many years pastor of
Mossy Creek church.
Although but eleven years of age,
Nannette Webb had made her impress
on her own and her parents friends by
her gentleness and sweetness of spirit.
For months before her death she was an
invalid and although everything possible
was done for the comfort and pleasure,
she never became spoiled or fretful and
endured the privations of invalidism and
the sufferings of her last hours with a
fortitude and patience truly remarkable.
Truly, the short life of this child, was
a sermon which must speak its message
of uplift to all who knew her, an intiuence
continuing after her spirit has taken
its flight.
MRS. JULIA E. McCHESNEY.
Whereas, In the death of Mrs. Julia
E. McChesney, the Ladies' Aid Society
of Central Presbyterian church, Washington,

Resolved, 1. That we shall greatly
miss her sweet and affectionate presence
in our midst, as for many years she has
always been in her accustomed place,
ever ready to willingly and lovingly aid
and advance Christ's kingdom, and we
feel sure she will receive the blessed
"Well done, good and faithful servant,
enter thou Into the joys of thy Lord."
Resolved, 2. That her i>atient and
beautiful character has won her many
friends, who will greatly miss her helpful
and refining influence, and to them
and to her sisters and brother we tender
our loving sympathy. God has but gathered
her tenderly to His bosom, where
there is neither pain nor sorrow, nor
suffering, nor dying. .
Resolved, 3. That a copy of these
resolutions be sent to her family and to
the Presbyterian of the South for publication.
and, also, spread upon the records
