held, in connection with the Sixth General
Convention of the Association, in
Plymouth church, 2535 Michigan avenue,
p Chicago, February 10, 11 and 12, 1909.
On the opening day there will be a joint
session of the Department of Universities
and Colleges, Department of Theological
Seminaries, Department of Churches and
Pastors, and Interdenominational Con- i
ference of Church and Guild Workers in
State Universities.
The subjects announced for the three
days include a symposium on the Problem
of Religious Instruction and Religious
Influence in State Universities.
Higher Education as a Preparation for
. I,ife on the Moral and Religious Side.
Preparation of vne College Student for
Social Service.
Agencies for Deepening the Spiritual
Idfe of the College,
Reports on the Progress of Religious
Work in the State Universities.
Prominent educators and religious
leaders will take part in the proceedings.
AUSTIN COLLEGE NOTES.
The Board of Trustees of Austin College
met in regular session Tuesday,
January 19, at Sherman. The following
members were present: Col. P. B. Hunt,
Dallas; Capt. D. D. Peden. Houston:
Judge A. A. Aldrich, Crockett; J. M.
Pullinwider, Palestine; Re-. B. I. Dickey,
San Antonio; Rev. Jno. A. Williams,
Durant. Okla.; Capt. J. L. Greer, McKinney;
Wm. A. Vinson, Sherman; D. W.
Guliok, Sherman; G. E. Wilson, Sherman.
Capt. Wm. Im Donnel, of Eliasville,
was elected to succeed E. E. Bryan, of
Giddings, resigned. Mr. Bryan has been
very prominently connected with the college,
being one of the founders of the
Stephen F. Austin fellowshm in history
and civics. He will change his place of
residence shortly to the West. The reports
of the college authorities showed
K**iit;rai conditions to ne most excellent.
The total enrollment of students to date
has reached 197, which Is a 70 per cent
Increase over the average attendance of
the past few years. The preparatory department
was shown to be a complete
success, and steps will be taken shortly
to provide a special building for Its use.
"ihe board authorized the employment of
field secretaries to take up the work of
raising funds at once, looking to the permanent
endowment of the Institution.
This work has already been begun with
reference to the English chair. Prof. D. B.
