REPORT FROM A SOUL-WINNER MISSION
IN THE KENTUCKY
MOUNTAINS.
In the last of June 1 arrived at my
mission station to find there a place
SOUL WINNERS* SCHOOL
absolutely destitute of anything like
religious services or training. But
more than this I found a people willing,
and anxious for a Sabbath school and
other services. In scarcely a home
could a Bible be found, a few had their
Testaments. Under these conditions it
would have been rather difficult to
organize and conduct a Sabbath school
had I not received your prompt and
generous help in the way of cards and
papers. This literature not only furnished
a basis on Which to work hut mafic
the school attractive and pleasing to all
from the tiniest baby, who received her
card, to the old woman, who went away
treasuring her paper.
As to results, the immediate ones
were very encouraging. The children
learned rapidly and seemed to retain
what they learned. Of course we cannot
say what results will follow from having
this literature scattered throughout, the
community.
If there was any success in the work
I shall certainly have to attribute a large
part of it to the generous encouragement
received from your Committee.

FRUITS FROM CITY MISSION WORK
IN KENTUCKY.
I am glad to report that fine work is
being done in the missions in whioh your '
Committee has been furnishing literature.
The mission on Preston street has outgrown
its present quarters, and we are
preparing to give them a more adequate
and comfortable building soon. Scores
more, we believe, can be gathered into
this school as soon as we can furnish
room for them. The mission on Berry
Boulevard (started about 18 months
ago) has grown into an active church of
nearly 50 members. They erected and

paid for (almost entirely themselves) n
neat, comfortable house of worship, and
have an active Sunday school, and the
outlook for both these fields is good.

A NOTABLE WORK IN THE NORTH
CAROLINA MOUNTAINS.
I deem it a privilege to testify to the
high appreciation of your most excellent
Sunday school literature, and Bible
studies among those who have received
and studied them in my district.
No greater testimony can be had than

t
the lives of those who have accepted the
Bible teaching as the rule of their lives,
and this applies to most all of the regular
pupils of my mission school.
One notable fact regarding my Sunday

school is that almost every member has
recited perfectly the Child's and Shorter
Catechisms, and the memorizing of the
Scriptures, by both old and young. On
account of the lack of knowledge of the
Bible, it is of the greatest importance
to teach by the questions and answer
methods, together with the International
Sunday school lessons. My people have
exceedingly bright, retentive minds ami
I think the B ble is its own interpreter,
hence the great recommendation of our
literature is the clearness and truth of
its teaching, especially that of the
Westminster and Child's Catechisms,
which are widely studied by all ages of
my people, from the grand parents down
to the lisping grand-child. My Catechism
noil of Honor class for seven years
numbered 450.
Of this large Roll of Honor class the
majority were adults, mostly young
mothers; only a small number of this
class are now here, they are scattered
"all over the U. S., even the Regular
Army has a goodly number of my
'Catechism Boys.'"
Tho '
. _v ueujauu iur your exceptionally
good Sunday school literature is constantly
increasing. God has wonderfully
blessed the Bible among our people, and
they are exceedingly anxious to do all
they can in spreading the knowledge of
that which has been so great a blessing
to them.
From the depths of my heart do I
plead with you for my long-neglected
people. In His name do I beg for the
JEWELS.
"Bread of Life" for them. The pure,
simple gospel truths is what they are
hungering and thirsting for.
