Cuba?An Incipient Revolution: One
thousand rurales are now surrounding
the band of insurgents which led the incipient
revolution in the province of
Santa Clara. It is extremely difficult to
come into close contact with the fugitives,
owing to the rugged character of
the country. \Vhile the government still
insists that the band is only composed
of eight men, it is alleged that the
movement is far-reaching and that It
includes a large number of persons who

is reported that the revolutionists have
surrendered. .
India?Attempts Against the Viceroy:
Investigations show that Lord Mlnto,
the viceroy, had an extremely narrow
escape from assassination at the opening
of the university conference at Calcutta.
The receipt of an anonymous
letter caused the police to make arrests
of suspects, who, according to the Information
acted upon by the police, had
planned to kill the viceroy with a bomb.

The strikers have called ou the Minister
of Public Works, with explanations,
and asking that, hereafter, delegates
of the association should have opportunity
to lay grievances before the
Minister of Public Works himself. Thi3
was conceded and the strikers resumed
work.
In response to the appeals of President
James E. Dickey at their recent sessions,
the North Georgia Conference pledged
$11,000 and tne South Georgia Conference
$12,000 to the endowment fund of Emory
College. The effort to raise the
proposed amount of $300,000 was begun
In July, and the aggregate of subscriptions
is now about $135,000. The Church
is responding liberally to the strong plea
of Dr. Dickey, and this important enterprise
will be duly completed.
