SOUTH CAROLINA.
Blackstock: The pastor, Rev. G. G.
Mayes was assisted in the preparatory
services by Rev. P. H. Moore, of Ridgeway.
Services were conducted Friday
and Saturday, preceding the Sabbath.
Florence: Rev. Wm. Black, synodical
evangelist of North Carolina, with his
singe.r, Mr. A. Burr, is conducting a
series of meetings in the First Church.
Great interest is being manifested and
the other denominations are suspending
their services anil working harmoniously
for the good of the community.
Clinton: A state meeting of the Laymen's
Missionary movement, for the
Synod of South Carolina, will be held at
this place on May 17-18. .
Rock Hill: On April 25, recommendations
from the session to the congregation
were read and adopted by a unanimous
vote to erect a church on Oakland
Avenue, to meet the needs of a large
part of the congregation which has out,
grown the present church. The building
is to cost not less than $15,000 exclusive
Oi the lot. The annual report of the
First Church showed there had been
sixty-two members received and $9,000
contributed for all purposes.
Yorkville: On Sunday, April 11, at a
congregational meeting, the salary of the
pastor, Rev. E. E. Gillespie, was increased
$300. Two deacons were elected.
Aiken: Rev. T. D. Johnson, of Summerville.

TEXAS.
Houston: "The Presbyterian of the
South" has never been able to find out
to whom to give credit for that two dollars
in currency, sent in an envelope
without name or address from Houston.

Milford: During the month of April
three elders and three deacons were
elected and installed in this church, and
one elder and three deacons were ordained,
the other two elders having been
ordained before. During the last twelve
momns iony-eigni niemuers nave oeen
received into this church, maxing the
total membersuip at present 180.
San Antonio: The Mexican church continues
to flourish under the active pastorate
of the Rev. R. Avila. During the
recent meeting iof the Texas-Mexican
Presbytery it experienced quite a revival.
Three new members were received.
It has a membership of 136.
Two more preaching points have been
opened to be visited regularly every
week, and which will develop, in the
course of time, into organized churches.
It is the purpose of Mr. Avila and those
helping him to work away until there
are four organized Mexican Presbyterian
churches in San Antonio.
COMMENCEMENT AT UNION SEMINARY.
On Saturday night, May 8, Rev.
Charles Merle D'Aubigne, of Paris,
France, delivers his address on "The
Beginnings of the French Reformation,"
illustrated with stereopticon. On Sunday,
May 9, at 11 a. m., the same distinguished
visitor win speak in tne Seminary
chapel on "Calvin, His Life and
'iiir.es, and on Sunday night in the
Church of the Covenant on "The Religious
Condition of France."

On Monday night the formal opening
of Richmond Hall takes place, when the
people of Richmond who gave this large
and handsome new building to the institution
will be received by the officers
of the seminary and the building inspected.
On Tuesday, May 11, at 11 o'clock, the
charge to the professor-elect of the English
Rible and Pastoral Theology will
be given by Re\*. R. F. Campnell, D. D?
and the new professor, Dr. T. H. Rice,
will deliver his inaugural address and be
formally inducted into his chair. Tuesday

social function of the year, will be
held.
On Wednesday, May 12, the final exercises
will be held in the chapel at 11

Rev. W. E. Shive changes his address
from Fort Worth to San Marcos, Tex.
Rev. W. A. Cleveland expects to enter
upon the pastorate of the Steele Creek
Church, June 1.
Rev. T. D. Johnston, of Summerville,
S. C., has accepted the call to Aiken and
will enter upon his labors the last of
May.
