KENTUCKY.
Rev. W. T. Spears, of Vanceburg, Ky.,
has received a call from the Frierson Memorial
church, Columbia, Tenn.
Marion: Rev. T. C. Johnston, the Synodlcal
Evangelist, recently conducted a
meeting in this church. The church has
been greatly strengthened and much good
has been done. Sixty dollars was given
as a free will offering to Local Home
Missions.
Frankfort: The Southern church at ihto
place enjoyed on May 19 a most interesting
and stimulating celebration of the
400th anniversary of the birth of John
Calvin. Rev. E. W. McCorkle, D. D., of
Nicholasvllle, was the principal speaker,
his subject being "The Lasting Impress
of Calvin's Life and Labors." The address
was scholarly and brilliant Judge J. P.
Hobson, of the Court of Appeals, spoke
on "Calvin as a Statesman," and dwelt
upon Calvin's influence upon succeeding
generations from the standpoint of true
statesmanship. Special music added to
the pleasure of the occasion and an enjoyable
reception was held in the lecture
room immediately after the exercises

LOUISIANA.
Ruston: This church has extended a
call to Rev. F. L. Delaney, of Virginia.
Abbeville: On May 17, nine members
were received on profession of their faith,
all Creoles and coming from Romanism.
Seventeen adults and children were baptized.
The work of Rev. M. R. Paradis,
as French evangelist is meeting with
great acceptance and success.
New Orleans: The seven Sundayschools
under the care of the Lafayette
church. Rev. J. C. Barr, D. D., pastor,
held united anniversary exercises in the
Lafayette church on Sunday, May 30.
Medals were presented to the scholars
whose attendance and good work merited
uiciu. j\ large coniriDution was made to
foreign missions.
French Work: During the summer vacation
of Rev. M. R. Paradis, the work will
be carried on by Rev. E. Pelletier, who
will come from Canada.
?First Church: Rev. J. Ernest Thacker
of Norfolk, Va., supplied the pulpit of this
church on Sunday, June t>. Rev. Dr. D.
Clay Lilly, will preach next Sunday, and
later Rev. H. M. Edmonds, of Montgomery,
Ala. Rev. Dr. T. S. Clyce, President
of Austin College, Sherman, lex., has
been engaged for several weeks' supply
later in the summer.
New Orleans Presbytery has been
called to meet in special session on June
17, at 10 a. m., in the First Church, to
attend to the following items of business:
(1) To examine and if the way be clear

ministry Mr. J. V. N. Talmage; (2) To
consider the case of Rev. John fcovaca,
and take such action thereon as may
be necessary, and to inquire into the
affairs of the Hungarian Church and do
what may seem best for its welfare. (3)
To consider the question of the relationship
of our iocal home missionary work
to the Assembly's Committee at Atlanta,
and decide as to what courqe our Presbytery
may pursue in its further prosecution
of home missionary effort. (4) To
consider an application from Rev. Jno.
Stanley Thomas for leave to labor outside
the bounds of the Presbytery.

MISSISSIPPI.
Gloster: Rev. R. L. Walkup has accepted
the call of the Hoyte Memorial
church for all of his time instead of a
part of it; and began on Sunday, May 30,
under the new regime.
Mount Olive: The pastor, Rev. W. H.
Mcintosh, has accepted a professorship
in Chamberlain-Hunt Academy, Port Gibson,
for a year.
Courtland: In a recent meeting conducted
by Rev. C. Z. Berryhill, of Holly
Springs, four persons were received into
the membership on profession and one
by letter.
West Point: The pulpit of this church
was occupied the last Sunday of May by
Rev. W. W. Frlerson, superintendent of
the Palmer Orphanage at Columbia*
Pine Ridge: The house of worship of
this congregation was destroyed by the
cyclone of a little over a year ago. A
new church has been completed, and was
dedicated recently, Rev. Dr. C. W. Giaftcn,
of Union Church, preaching the sermon.
Yazoo City: The committee of this
church has placed its order for the new
organ. The builders will be the HookHastings
Company, of Massachusetts. The
instrument ordered, and expected to be
in position early in September; will contain
I00f? pipes, selected according to a
well ' approved scheme, and will coat
$3,700.
NORTH CAROLINA.
Evangelistic Campaign: The Presbytery
of King's Mountain is to conduct a campaign
as it did last summer. One tent
will be used in Cleveland, Rutherford and
Polk counties, the other in the mill district
of Gaston and Lincoln counties.
Asheville: A church on Ora Street was
recently organized by a commission qf
Asheville Presbytery, consisting of Rev.
R. P. Smith and Rev. E. L. Grau. A Sunday
school has been maintained in this
part of the city for several years and
this church is the outgrowth.
Montreat: A temporary auditorium is
ueing erected between the hotels. It is
one hundred by ninety-six feet and will
have a seating capacity of 1,500. The Y.
M. C. A. will meet from June 11 to 22;
the Young People's Missionary Movement
from' July 2 to 11, and the summer conferences
from July It to August 31.
SOUTH CAROLINA.
Gaffney, Limestone Church: Rev. F. W.
Gregg, pastor of Upper Long Cane church,
Abbeville, has accepted an invitation to
the pastorate of this church, and will enter
upon this work in his new field very
shortly.
Aiken: Rev. T. D. Johnson was installed
pastor of this church by commission
of Charleston Presbytery on May
30.

Goliad: Rev R. E. Porterfleld was installed
as pastor of this church on May 16.
Rev. Brooks I. Dickey, preaced the sermon
and charged the pastor. Ruling elder C.
F. Carsner, charged the people. The
report this year to the different causes
amounted to $5.80 per member.

Our Mexican mission seems
to be in a good condition and there are
many open doors to enter. The congregation
is rejoicing in the accession of
some eighteen members and a deep and
wide-spread interest among the Mexican
people. A number are only wailing an
opportunity to make a public confession
of Christ and many others are "not far
from the Kingdom." The mission is looking
forward to a visit this summer from
Dr. S. LI Morris.
R. D. Campbell.
Gainesville: The annual report to Presbytery
from this church showed additions
during the year with a total membership
of 116. The Sunday school ha3 an enrollment
of ninety, with a home depart
mem 01 mty-four. The contributions to
benevolent causes from the church
amounted to $400.78, and the average per
member for all purposes was $19.63.
Presbyterian Encampmnnt: The Texas
Presbyterian Encampment will be held
for the fourth year at Westminster Assembly
Grounds, near Kerrvllle, July 22
to August 11. A fine program has been
prepared. Special rate tickets will be on
sale July 21 by all the railroads In Texas.
Leander Church: This church has been
given credit. In the report, for eleven dollars
as its contribution to foreign missions,
or twenty-eight cents per capita,
when the amount credited should have
been ninety-three dollars; of this sum
eighty-two having been given by the Ladies'
Missionary society, making an average
per capita of two dollars and twentyone
cents for the forty-two members.

Oak Level and Meadeville Churches:
Rev. J. C. Leps was installed pastor of
these churches on Sunday, May 30, by
a committee of Roanoke Presbytery, consisting
