REV. GEORGE W. FINLEY, D. D.
Inasmuch as it pleased our Lord, the .
great head of His Church, to remove, on
April 23, at Staunton, Virginia, the Rev.
George W. Finley, D. D., from the sphere
of his earthly labors to his glorious reward
in the church triumphant; and as
Dr. Finley was for about- twenty-two
years pastor of this church, therefore.
The session of the Church of Romney,
W. Va., expresses its deep sorrow and
sense of loss in this disipensation of
Providence; its sympathy with the bereaved
family; and its recognition of the
loss sustained by the church; while we
bow in acquiesence to the will of our
Lord and Master and thank Hint for the
privilege and blessing of colabor with
this eminent man of God.
!And we bear our testimony to the
splendid abilities of our brother in every
sphere of the church work; to his great
power as a preacher of the blessed gos
pel?always sound, scriptural, logical,
ornate and often exhibiting the fascination
of genuine oratory; as a pastor fait'.^
ful, tender, watchful, loving and sympathetic,
binding to hint those to whom
he ministered with hooks of steel; as a
man his exalted character made it impossible
for him to be aught else than
true and loyal to his Saviour, to the
truth with which God entrusted nim as
an ambassador, to his duty, to his congregations,
to his friends and to the unsaved
with whom he came in contact.
All this is shown in the fact that while
his relation as pastor of this church was
severed more than sixteen years ago,
his influence and the impress of his life
abide with us still.
Ordered, That this action be spread
upon the records of the session, a copy
forwarded to his family, and that it be
read to the congregation as an expro3alnn

MRS. LUTIE K. GULLEY.
The wife of Capt. G. A. Gully, of Staunton,
Va., died at the Hoover House in
that city, where she had long lived, on
the evening of May 21, 1909, after a brief
illness. She had been for some time in
delicate health, but the end cam^. quite
suddenly.
In the death of this excellent Christian
lady our community is called to
mourn the loss of one who was extensively
known in the city and in the
county, or who was universally esteemed
and loved. Her husband was for a long
