Story Corner
Two men were having an argument as
to their respective strengths.
"Why," said' She first, "every morning
before breakfast I get a bucket and pull
up ninety gallons front the well."
"That's nothing,retorted the other.
"I get a boat every morning and pull
up the river."
A Presbyterian minister of a Western
State recalls with delight how a loyal
iittle girl in his Sunday school proved
to a playmate that her minister was a
better preacher than the minister of the
church which the small playmate attended.
It had become well known in the
community that the Presbyterian
preacher believed in short sermons, while
the preference of his ministerial neighbor
seemed to be .lust the opposite. And
by this point the little Presbyterian
clinched her final argument:
"Everybody knows that your preacher
preaches fifty minutes and puts the people
all to sleep, and our preacher can do
the same thing just as well in ten minutes."?Interior.
Contributor: "I sent you some suggestions
telling you how to make your paper
more interesting. Have you carried out
any of my ideas?" Editor: "Did you meet
the office boy with the waste-basket as
you came upstairs?" Contributor: "Yes."
Editor: "Well, he was carrying out your
ideas."
The visitors in the historic museum
gazed curiously at a small feather pillow
which nestled in a glass case. "I don't
see anything unusual about that pillow,"
remarked one of the visitors, turning to
the guide. "It's a very valuable pillow,"
replied the guide. "That is Washington's
original headquarters."?Driftwood.
A London paper recently offered a
series of prizes for the best "tongue
twisting" sentences. The prize-winning
contributions are:
The bleak breeze blighted the bright
broom blossoms.
Two toads totally tired tried to trot
to Ted bury.
Strict, strong Stephen Stringer snared
slickly six sickly silky snakes.
Susan shineth shoes and socks; socks
and shoes shines Susan. She ceaseth
shining shoes and socks, for shoes and
socks shock Susan.
A haddock, a haddock, a black spotted
haddock; a black spot on the black back
of a black spotted haddock.
