the crowded centers of population are
receiving careful attention but the religious
life and needs of rural districts,
which are sending a constant stream of
people to tne populous centres, have
been largely ignored by the students of
church life problems. The conditions in
the rural and mountain districts require
that special agencies and methods be
used which are peculiar to these localities,
and it is for the study of every
phrase of the problem this conference
is to be held. Dr. Wilbert W. Whi f ,
of the New Yor* Bible Institute, will
conduct the conference and will give
throughout a helpful course of study in
the English Bible. This course is for
the special benefit of workers in these
districts and the purpose is to show them
how to study and teacn effectively the
fundamental truths of the Bible.
rracucai men wno Know the work will
discuss the educational and social proolems
of the rural and mountain districts
and the conference win be strongly evangelistic
throughout. The conference has
for its chief aim the helping of the devoted
workers, who are laboring at a
great personal sacrifice in these remote.
districts. Their meagre salaries, ranging
front ten to forty dollars per month
scarcely provide the necessities of life,
and such a thing a3 a vacation or attendance
upon such conference as is now
proposed has never entered into their
dreams. To bring the workers who need
the inspiration and uplift of this conference
to Montreat, a fund is being raised
and it is proposed to pay the entire expenses
of at least one hundred of these
devoted servants of God. Dr. White has
actuicu iium menus in rsew torn, $1,UU0
for this purpose and it is desired to
raise $1,500 additional among the
churches of the South. An investment of
$25, will provide for the expenses of a
worker and it i3 not possible to give a
greater amount of pleasure or do more
good than to give one of these workers
this vacation. Individuals, churches and
societies have the privilege of selecting
the worker to whom they will give this
vacation privilege, but funds should be
sent to R. E. Magill, Secretary, Richmond,
Va.
The treasurer will send to the beneficiary
selected the amount needed for
railroad fare and entertainment will be
provided at Montreat, so the trip will be
absolutely free to these guests of honor.
Radium Expensive: The largest order
for radium ever given has Just been
placed jointly by Lord Iveagh and Sir
Ernest Cassel, who will donate it to the
radium Institute, for the foundation of
which they have provided the funds. The
Quantity ordered is 7 i-2 grammes?about
a quarter of an ounce avoirdupois?and
the price is $50,o00.
