me five berries that she had picked, I
asked, "How many have you, Doris?"
Her brows puckered a moment, then
dimpling with smiles, she answered,
"Wait till I eat pne?then I'll tell you"!

HOW IT WORKS.
The employes of a certain factory submitted
a demand for Increased wages.
They wanted 10 cents more on the day,
and threatened to strike unless the demand
was granted.
The company at once requested arbitration,
and increased the price of it/,-produce
10 per cent.
The wholesalers took a gloomy view of
the situation, ordered large quantities of
the product at the old price, as the increase
would not go into effect for thirty
days, and marked the price up 25 per
cent.
The Jobbers immediately increased
prices 50 per cent on the old stock they
had on hand.
The retailers promptly doubled the
price to the consumer. Whereunon tho
newspapers expressed themselves in no
ancertain terms.
The board of arbitration decided
against the employes of the factory and
they remained at-work at the old scale.
But the consumer had lost sight of this
part of the transaction.
Thus do our channels of prodi'^tion influence
our prosperity.-?Life.
