he has been led to labor; (3) That we
commend him to the Presbytery of North

THE DECEASED WIFE'S SISTER.
The Assembly of the Presbyterian *
Church of Ireland debated at length the
old question of marrying the deceased

explained as follows in the Belfast Witness:
"All that the Assembly decided was
that no minister would be disciplined who
performed the ceremony of marriage be.
tween a man and his deceased wife's sister,
and that no person contracting such
a marriage would be subject to discipline.
The Assembly's decision does not compel
any member whose "conscience would
prevent hi sapproving or such a marriage
to perform the ceremony. It does
not subject a minister to discipline either
for performing or for refraining from performing
the ceremony. It lays no burden
on any man's conscience, and lays no
embargo on those who enter into the
married state under these conditions."
Years ago the Southern Presbyterian
Church exscinded from the Confession of
Faith the prohibition of such marriages.
The story was told that when a Presbytery
in the West acted affirmatively on
the Amendment, a local paper reported
that this,Presbytery resolved "that a man
ought to marry his deceased wife's sis
ter."
WINS HER HEART
Fcod that Helps Baby and the Family
Pleases Mother.
Show a mother how to feed her baby
so that it will be healthy, ro3y and plump
and grow up strong and sturdy and the
mother's gratitude is everlasting.
A mother says: "Five weeks ago I
weaned baby but could not get her to
take any kind of food until I tried GrapeNuts
which she relished from the first,
and on it she has plumped up and blossomed
into a-fat, chuboy little girl.
"I feed Grape-Nuts to her regularly
?use three uackaaes a week for babv
and my tnree-year-old boy alone, and I
find that it regulates and keeps them
nourished, strong and In good health
0 all the time.
"Since feeding my children on GrapeNuts
I have used absolutely no medicine
for either of them. Such food a3 thl3
that does such wonders wins Its way, to
a mother's heart. Please accept our
thanks for the good your food has done
in our family where we all eat It."
Children will grow up strong and
healthy, or weak and puny according to
the food they get.
Grape-Nuts Is a complete and perfect
food for adults and children, Is made on
scientific lines and this is easily proved
by trial.

Ever read the above letter? A new
one appears from time to time. They
are genuine, true, and full of humaninterest.

5 PRESBYTERIAN OF THE SOUT
FROM THE PAPERS.
Union Theological Seminary.?The
seminary and the city of Richmond recently
enjoyed the presence of Dr. Howard
Agnew Johnston of Colorado Springs.
Dr. Johnston came principally to deliver
the annual course of lectures to the
students of the Seminary and also to
lecture at First Church, but his lectures
proved so unusually helpful and inspiring
that he was in demand in every
quarter. He addressed the young ladles
of Westminster School, the men of Richmond
College, the men of the town, and ;
in addition to all this he gave two other
lectures by soecial renup-st?r?n? n*
which was received so enthusiastically
that he was obliged to repeat it three
times. These lectures came as a very
iitting sequel to the great Chapman-Alexander
meetings held here.?The Interior.
Church and State.?When ever the
Church goes into politics, politics will
get into the Church, and when politics
creeps in, religion will rush out. Of
course, there will be those to say that
this is merely argument by indirection
against prohibition. This paper does nothing
by indirection. We are opposed to
prohibition, but we fight in the open.
What we are now saying has nothing to
do with prohibition per se. We are
asking the preachers to avoid the appearance
of pushing the Church organization
into civil disputes. It is not the
business of the Church to reform the
laws of the country. Its mission is to
convert men and women and saturate
them with true religion. That is the
root of the matter. That is fundamental.
If the Church will but purify the spring,
the stream will run clean and pure. If
the Church will but make character, conduct
will regulate itself.?Newport News
Times-Herald.
The Power of God.?Some curious and
interesting changes are made in the
.-Ainei icuu n.eviseu version ot tne Ulble,
over the King .Tames edition. In a number
of significant instances the verb has
been changed from the active to the passive
form. Thus, in the passage which
forms the basis of the present study, the
familiar words of Paul, "If ye then be
risen together with Christ, seek those
things which are above," have been
made to read, "If then ye be raised together
with Christ." That is to say, the
active agent is not man, but God. Man
does not rise of himself with Christ; he
simply lets himself be raised. The power
is all of God. It is "not I, but Christ,"
as Paul elsewhere says: or "Christ In
you, the hope of glory." Only by the supernatural
does it become possible for a
moral to attain unto the Christ life.?
