of man, they continued active in church
work almost to the time of their last
illness. Dr. Christian continued In the
active discharge of the duties of the
eldership to the very last, and Mrs.
Christian remained president of the
Ladies' Missionary Society until within
a year or two of her death.
On December 22, 1907, they celebrated
the sixtieth annivprsm-v of mo-.
riage.
It pleased God that these two, who
had been so long united by the tenderest
of human ties, should not be separated
long by death. On March 29, 1909, on a
peaceful evening, just as the sun, in
fitting symbol, was setting calmly in the
golden west, Dr. Christian's gentle spirit
winged its (light into the presence and
glory of his Saviour.
In consequence of a nervous shock and
a subsequent paralytic stroae, it is probable
that Mrs. Christian never fully
realized that her beloved husband had
been called from earth to heaven. The
summons came to her just eleven weeks
later, at almost the same hour and with
the same fitting symbol of the gently
setting sun. "In life they were united,
and in death they were not divided."
Thpir bodies sleep, side by side, in
beautiful Hollywood; their souls are
united In the glory of the better life,
while their lives remain as a fragrant
memory with all who knew them, and
on the morning of eternity there will be
many to rise up and call them blessed.
