such dimensions I had never yet seen,
nor are they as a rule kept in such good
order; here even the ground in front of
them was swept clean. I saw one woman

" 'After this tour of inspection was
ended, a second conference took place
between myself and the queen and her
councillors. During this interview I
spoke to her majesty about Jesus. 1
told her that we had come into the country
on His account. She listened attentively,
but made no remark. When I
then asked to be allowed to erect a
building in uer country for preaching and
school purposes she gave permission at
once, and added that she would build
the chapel herself and then get the people
to attend the services. She also pronosed
that a school should ho nnoned in
the residence itself. My answer to that
was that at present we had not the
needful teachers at our disposal. She
next informed me that she intended
sending a son of the under-king to our
school. And the lad really came to the
station soon afterwards.'"
Revivals are spreading all over Central
China. Almost every letter and paper
tells of the spread of the fire. At no
time in the history of the Christian
Church in China have there been tokens
of such definite signs of spiritual blessing.
In Manchuria, Chili, Honan, Shantung
and Anhwei provinces the mission
stations report movements that are almost
startling in the character of their
spiritual awakening.
