of God was unwavering, her sympathy for
humanity earnest and true. She came
from a family of Presbyterians. One of
her sisters is the widow of the late Rev.
C. S. M. See. Her husband, the late
Thomas A. Bradford, was one of the
ablest lawyers west of the Alleghenies.
She leaves of her immediate family a

devoted members of the church their
mother helped to found. Surely as it is

labors and their works do follow them.
WOMANHOOD AND CHRISTIANITY.
At Philippi, Paul and his party declared
the gospel to a company of women
gathered to observe the Jewish forms of
worship by a riverside. One of them
named Lydia, a wealthy merchant, not
only accepted the message, but urgently
offered the hospitality of her home to
the traveling preachers. Something
more royal than the purple in which she
dealt was freely offered to her. She
recognized its value and acepted it.

to womanhood. It has given to
woman a gentle chivalry. But it has
done more than that. It has given to
her a noble respect. It has taught men
to see in her not a servant, but a comrade
and a friend. It has made a great
place for her and it has made her worthy
to fill it. It has emancipated her
from galling chain3 without robbing her
of womanhood. It has taught her how
to wear the fair flower of womanliness
while walking with the firm step of freedom.
It has taught her to accept necessary
limitations while casting away
chains. It has pointed to the home as
her great Bphere. But within the precincts
of the home it has reared a throne
for her.
This dealer in purple who heard Paul
speak by the riverside belongs to a
great company of women who have
found in the message of Christ life's
only peace; in its largest meaning and
its crown of loving service.
