THE TEXAS-MEXICAN PRESBYTERY.
Met at Corpus Christi, Texas, Second
Presbyterian Church, October 7-11, 1909.
The opening sermon was preached by
last Moderator, Rev. R. D. Campbell, on
Mark 16: 15. Rev. R. Avila was elected
Moderator and Rev. E. 8. Rodriguez,
temporary clerk.
The most conspicuous feature of this
meeting was the spirituality of the public
services, especially on Sunday, which
was by common consent a prayer and
fast-day. God gave us a great blessing,
so we return to our own fields with new
strength, greater hope and earnestness
to fight against ?sin in every form. We
were refreshed also in a material way,
because on Friday afternoon the kind
lady members of the Aid Society of the
First Persbyterian Church gave us refreshments
which we enjoyed very much.
We want to express to them our most
heartfelt gratitude for this practical man
?
isoiauuii ui> lucii iinertjsi in our worK.
According to the reports from the fields
our work is in better condition at present
than ever has been. There are some
special difficulties, but the prospects are
very encouraging indeed.
Eighty-nine new members have been
received by profession of faith since April
1. Our American friends in Austin have
proved ^ithout any doubt their great interest
in our work. They will pay the rent
of a house where our licentiate, Mr. Penn,
will live, reserving a room for the services.
Our needs are pressing us. We very
much need a church building at San Antonio,
for which we need at least $6,000.
We also need a manse in San Marcos,
where the rents are so high, and also
some four of five hundred dollars to purchase
a lot and change our chapel to a
better place.
We need Just now about $160, for trip
expenses and boarding of two young men
who are in the Coyoacan Seminary and
wish to come to work in our fields for
the vacation time, that Is. for four
months.
If our God moves the heart of some
friend and wishes to help us'for any one
of these causes, please send your help to
Rev. R. D. Campbell, Beeville, Tex.
Elias Trevlno, Stated Clerk.
San Marcos, Texas.
