life, but in a sketch of this kind 1 shall
mention a few outstanding characteristics
that impressed all who knew her
well. The first to be mentioned was her
unselfishness. In this she was unquali- j
fled. She was ever ready to do for oth- |
ers and often at a great sacrifice to her- i
self. The second was her ability to make
friends. She was esteemed and trusted
as a friend by all classes of people. The

difficult for her. All that was necessary
was to know her duty. She would under- |
take anything and always succeeded. The
last was the sweet, long-suffering spirit
towards the faults of other people.
Sweet, pure soul, it seems hard to realize
you have left us; to our ignorance
and short-sightedness you ought not to
have died; and many and fervent were
the prayers that you might be spared.
But our lives are in His hands: Your
life though short in years was finished on
earth. Yes, finished, but too soon to us
it may seem, but not to Him who loved
you and gave Himself for you.
"Not now, but in the coming years,
It may be in the better land,
We'll know the meaning of our tears,
And then sometime we'll understand."
RESOLUTIONS PASSED
By the Vineville Presbyterian Church at
Morning Service, Sunday, November
7, 1909.
Whereas, It has pleased Almighty God
in His wise Providence to remove by
death from among us our dearly beloved
friend and brother in the Lord, Rev. E. S.
McFadden, we, the Vineville Presbyte- '
rian Church, in congregation assembled,
do hereby adopt the following resolutions:
First. That we are deeply sensible of a
great loss, yet we bow in humble submission
to the will of our loving Father.
Second. That his life of earnest conse- j
cration, and deep Christian piety, his
words of wise counsel and instruction in 1
the Word of God, and his faithful friendship
and ready sympathy through the
years he lived among us, are to us a
tender and a grateful memory. We shall
not forget him or cease to be thankful
for the kind Providence that brought us
to know and love him.
Third. That we extend to the griefstricken
family assurance of our sincerest
sympathy and prayers in their behalf.
Fourth. That our session be requested
to spread a copy of these resolutions on
their minutes and that a copy be sent his j
sorrowing family.
