Some of the best remedies we have for winter ills are just simple things that can be easily prepared at home and they can be made with very little efTort or expense. An excellent remedy for croup or colds when the throat seems filled up is made by shaving a piece of alum until you have a teaspoonful and then mixing with twice the quantity of sugar or honey, and this must be given as quickly as possible. For breaking up a cold there is nothing better than hot lemonade taken upon retiring. This is made by putting the Juice of two lemons in a pint of hot water and boiling one minute. Sweeten to taste and drink as hot as possible. Lemon juice thickened with sugar is a good remedy for hoarseness. A good remedy for catarrh is made with one teaspoonful of borax and the same of soda, dissolved in one cup of warm water, and this must be used as a snuff two or three times a day. To make a remedy for chapped skin, t olrn tnn o ?-**? ?/% ?-*?l ~ ?- . J ? iono IEU paiui [Jul C fe1J LCI 111 UUU UVC parts by weight of borax, then warm and stir until the borax is dissolved. Bottle and keep on hand ready for immediate use. Rub a little of the borax-glycerine well over the face and hands night and morning and before going out in the cold or wind, wiping away all surplus with a soft cloth, after which powder with borictalcum powder. In case of severe pain from neuralgia, relief may be obtained by dampening a cloth with strong camphor, laying it over a hot flat iron and holding it against the face. Cover the head and breathe the steam as long as possible. For relief in cases where there is soreness in the chest, fill a hot-water bag, or heat a good-sized bag of salt in the oven and then wrap well and place between the shoulders Just back of the great nerve center. There is nothing better to use when a child has toothache or earache than ft hot Bftit hae pnvprprt with a nlacft of soft flannel before placing against the face. A. M. H. WATER AS AN AGENT FOR HEALTH. If mothers knew the value of water they would suffer few terrors when the children have sudden sick turns. Indeed, the number of those turns would be sensibly decreased. If invalids instead of constant drugging would try the efficacy of plenty of water they would often be surprised to And their role of Invalidism had slipped off IUCUI. For sudden congestion and pains there is nothing more effective than hot fomentations or compresses applied over the affected part. This has been known to quickly relieve indigestion without medi cine.
