PRESBYTERIAN OF THE SOU
THE THORNWELL ORPHANAGE IN
MARCH.
The children of the Harriet Home had
a great shock in the death from apoplexy
of their loved and faithful matron, Miss
Janie Spence, of Ridgeway, S. C. Miss
.mint; nas miusi uevuieu lu ner uuues,
was ever at her post and conscientious
in her work. She passed away without
a word and in a few hours after the
stroke. She was well, up to the time of
her death. For six years past, there has
not been a death among the children, but
twice, most faithful matrons have been
taken from them. There is not now a
single case at the infirmary. We are
seeking for a matron, but she must be
above thirty, without dependent children,
a faithful Presbyterian and in excellent
health.
The Hollingsworth cottage for boys
will be finished by commencement on
June 14. The building will be dedicated
by the Board of Trustees. It is hoped
that Governor Ansel, whose mother-inlaw
gave the building, will be present and
will speak on that occasion.
The number of applications for admission
continues to be large. They have
averaged alJbut two a day since the opening
of the year. We are unable to cope
with the situation, but hope to do better
when the new cottage is completed.
Rev. Mr. Branch has succeeded in putting
in the bank the first thousand dollars
for the Florida Cottage. This building
will not be begun until the full five
thousand is raised. For the sake of the
orphans, it is hoped that this will not be
long. The total accommodation of the
orphanage is now for 260 pupils, and that
number is most with us now. As fast as
vacancies occur, they are filled from the
waiting list.
The receipts for February in* round
numbers, $1,600. Expenses, $2,400.
All contributions should be sent to Rev.
wm. f. Jacobs, Clinton, S. C.
The voice from heaven that bids us to
open the door to reconciliation where
enmity exists, conveys wisdom that will
bring blessing for both worlds for whosoever
will accept it.
Fluttering Hearts
"I have had heart trouble for 40
years; after taking 18 bottles of
Dr. Miles' Heart Remedy I am entirely
cured, and to-dav I dr?
feel the slightest effect of heart
trouble." DAVID FRAZIER,
State Soldiers Home, Erie, Co., Ohio.
Fluttering indicates a weakness of
I the nerves and muscles of the heart,
j Like palpitation, shortness of breath,
| pain in side and shoulder, it is
frequently followed by the worst
I form of heart disease; therefore it
should not be neglected.
Dr. Miles' Heart Remedy
is a most reliable heart medicine. It
strengthens and regulates the heart
action, stimulates the digestive organs,
and increases the circulation.
The first bottle will benefit! If not,
