April 13, 1910. THE
CHAMBERLAIN-HUNT ACADEMY,
PORT GIBSON, MISS.
The Board of Trustees of this school
have recently made two radical changes
in the school as follows:
i ne rate was lowered to $175 covering
all expenses, believing that the increased
patronage resulting therefrom will more
than make up the loss from the higher
rate formerly charged. The military
feature was eliminated, believing that
the military feature, unless it is strictly
military, is unsatisfactory and the source
of expense to the average patron. These
changes will become effective next term.
The discipline will be none the less
strict, and the management thoroughly
Christian, along lines that are modern
and aggressive.
This school is owned by the Synod of
Mississippi and will soon have completed
its endowment fund of $100,000.
RURAL LIFE WEEK AT UNIVERSITY
VIRGINIA SUMMER SCHOOL.
There has been no more helpful, interesting
and vital enterprise connected
with any summer school than Rural Life
Week at University Virginia. The discussions
center around the* large educational
topics of better educational facilities for
rural communities, and the socialization
of school work.
The time between July 13 and 16 this
year will be devoted to discussions of
rural life problems. As far as the subjects
have been se'eeted, they will be as
follows: "Diseases Spread by Soil Pollution,"
by Dr. C. W. Stiles, of the HookWorm
Commission; "Public School Agriculture
and Farming," by Mr. Dick Crosby,
of the United States Department of
Agriculture; "Agriculture in the OneTeacher
Rural School," by Prof. B. H.
Cocheron; "Profitable Farming, the Basis
of Progress," by Professor S. W. Fletcher.
Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Other
speakers will be Mr. T. O. Sandy, of Virginia;
Dr. K. C. Davis, of the Rutgers Agricultural
College and the University of
Virginia Summer School; Miss Charlton,
of the Iowa Agricultural College; and
probably Prof. L. H. Bailey, of Cornell
University; Hon. J. D. Eggleston, State
Superintendent of Public Instruction, Virginia;
Dr. S. A. Knapp, of the United
States Agricultural Department; Dr. Ennion
G. Williams, Virginia Commissioner
of Health.
Advance In Medical Science.
Medical science has taken a great leap forward
during the past century. A century j
ago very little was known of bacteria, bacilli,
germs and of the methods universally |
recognized for fighting such invasions.x They
used to let a man die of diseases that are
easily curable today. In no branch of med- I
icine has greater progress been made than
in treating those addicted to the use of morphine
and liquor. Such human slaves are
now looked upon as diseased rather than !
naturally vicious, and down in Atlanta, Ga., (
there is a man who for over thirty years has I
been treating successfully nearly all who ,
have been brought to him. One may be, !
from the world's standpoint, a human wreck.
But Dr. Woolley will put new life in him and
make him a man?with a righteous abhorrence
for the degrading influence of drugs.
If you know of any one in your neighborhood
who needs to be uplifted from the mire
< f despair, won't you write to Dr. B. M.
