week beginning October 23 as Union
Seminary Week.
The Sabbath: Among the recommendations
of the committee adopted was
one, "That sessions be requested to discourage
in every way, reasonable and
wise, all unnecessary Sunday travel, the
use of secular newspapers on the Sabbath,
the growing tendency to Sunday
parties and other phases of Sabbath desecration.
Pastoral Relations: The ad interim
committee on the formation and dissolution
of the pastoral relation, Dr. English,
chairman, made a report with the
following recommendation, which was
adopted: That this Presbytery shall assert
and maintain its God-given authority
in this matter, and require its ministers
and churches in the future to conform
not only to the letter of the law,
but its spirit as well.
Missionary Appointments: The Home
Mission Committee made the following
assignments of ministers to preach

as the place for the fall meeting, and the
first Tuesday in October, at 8 o'clock

PRESBYTERY OF BRAZOS
Convened at El Campo, Texas, and was
' in session three days. There were present
fourteen ministers and twelve ruling
elders. Rev. W. R. Hudson was elected
moderator, and Rev. J. A. Ramsay temporary
clerk.
Received: Rev. Joseph Miksovsky, a
Bohemian minister, was received from
the Presbytery of Solomon, Kansas,
U. S. A. Mr. Miksovsky is laboring as
an evangelist among the Bohemians resident
within our bounds. Rev. T. C. Johnston,
after spending a short time in
i\cuiucny ?uu ireiajia, was welcomed
back to his work of evangelist among
the American population.
Calls: Rev. C. L. Cleveland was called
to the pastorate of the Pierce Church,
and Rev. W. R. Hudson to Blythesville,
Ark.
The Name of the Lubbock Street
Church, Houston, was changed to Houston,
Third Church.
The Commissioners of Presbytery to
the Assembly were instructed to present
the name of the Rev. J. D. Leslie, of Ballinger,
Texas, for election to the position
of stated clerk of that uuay.
Proof Texts: Presbytery overtured the
Assembly "to extend the time for the
consideration of this matter for one
year, referring it back to the Presbyte
lies, wii.il instructions 10 report to tne
next Assembly.
Foreign Missions: Presbytery contributed
to this cause at the rate of $1.35
per member. The Layman's Movement
was commended; pastors were urged to
organize "Mission Study Classes" and
preach and pray for this cause.
Home Missions: Two evangelists are
at work, one among the Americans and
the other among the Bohemians. Besides
this, sixteen ministers were as

sisted in supplying twenty-four churches.
The churches of the Presbytery contributed
$2,431 toward tnis work. The
church buildings at Angleton, Alvin and
El Campo have been restored since the
storm of last year. Gulf Prairie, New
Waverly, Palacios, Wharton and Houston,
Third Church, are erectbig buildings.
Rev. G. W. Story, as special evangelist,
has recently organized a church
at Blessing and erected a building. A
church has been organized at Eagle
L.ane.
Educational: Presbytery heard with
much pleasure of the response to the
efforts of "Synod's Committee of Ten"
to raise $250,000 for our educational institutions,
and sought to encourage said
committee to continued and unabated
zeal by calling upon the people under
our jurisdiction to prove their consecration
to the Lord by a liberal response
out of the means wherewith the Lord
has blessed His stewards.
A resolution expressive of the high
esteem in which Presbytery- held the

Mr. Bryan had been elected moderator
of the Presbytery.
Presbytery adjourned, to hold Its fall
session in Somerville.
Presbytery was entertained by the
ladies of the church at a banquet presided
over by the pastor, Rev. G. W.
Story, with grace and dignity.

EAST MISSISSIPPI PRESBYTERY
Met in Aberdeen, Miss., April 19, and the
opening sermon was preached by Rev.
W. E. B. Harris, the retiring moderator.
There Were Eighteen Ministers and
twenty-four ruling elders present during
the sessions. Officers chosen: Rev. John
Uoff, president of the Chickasaw Female
College, was chosen moderator, and E.
G. Boyd temporary clerk.
The Resignation of Rev. H. R. Raymond
as pastor of the Starkville Church
was accepted and the pastoral relation
was dissolved, but, on request of the
church, he was retained as pastor emeritus.
Ordination: Rev. W. J. Elliott, an
ordained deacon of the M. E. Church of
the Louisiana Conference, was received
as a licentiate and was ordained to the
full work of the gospel ministry.
Proof Texts: The report of the com
mittee recommending the approval of
the same was adopted. Special attention
was given to the causes of Local Home
Missions, Foreign Missions and Christian
Education.
Visiting Brethren: Rev. M. E. Melvin,
principal of the Chamberland Hunt
Academy, and Rev. S. Stine, of the Christian
Church, and Rev. J. R. Countiss, of
the M. E. Church.
Ruling Elder W. C. Smith, secretary
of the Synodical Home Mission Committee,
presented the nature, needs and
some of the results of the work of the
committee. .
The Ministerial Brethren, with liardly
an exception, agreed to give four Sabbaths
to the above work. After a presentation
of the work and needs of the
Palmer Orphanage by the superintendent,
Rev. W. V. Frierson, a collection
or $25.80 was taken up for the cause.
Rev. John Goff was given evangelistic
powers to organize a church at or near
Gershom, if the way be clear.
Rev. John Goff, president of Chickasaw
Female College, gave a splendid account
of the work being done there. Rev.
J. S. Shaw accepted the call of Dekalb
Church for one-half of his time, and the
following were appointed to install him

Laymen's Movement, was unanimously
adopted: Whereas, The Christian world
recognizes that the authority and the
command to evangelize the world comes
directly from our Lord Jesus Christ and
rests upon our own generation just as
powerfully as upon that in which He
lived when He verbally gave the command

the world and preach the gospel to
every creature;" and, Whereas, Only in
our own generation, since the time of
the apostles, do His people seem to recognize
to its full extent the magnitude
of the work, which recognition has
brought into existence the Laymen's
Movement; and, Whereas, This movement
is entitled to receive the full support,
encouragement and fostering care
of the whole Church; tnerefore be it resolved,
That East Mississippi Presbytery,
in session assembled in Aberdeen,
Miss., this, the 20th, day of April, 1910,
do most heartily endorse the movement,
and recommend the earnest concurrence
and co-operation of all Christian people
in it. Resolved, That this Presbytery, in
full recognition of the worthiness of the
movement, do hereby appoint a committee
consisting of four laymen and one
minister, to take charge of the work
within the bounds of this Presbytery,
which committee shall devise ways and
means of presenting the cause for which
the Laymen's Movement stands to the
church, especially in localities where it
has not heretofore been presented, and
cuucttvur 10 arouse the people to the
importance of this great cause, and also
to secure pledges from them for its
financial support.
The following were appointed a committee
to take this matter in hand: L.

Rev. Harvey Chisholm (Col.) returned
his letter, which had been granted him
to unite with Bethel Presbytery, and his
name was enrolled.
After a most delightful stay with the
good people of Aberdeen, the Presbytery
adjourned on Friday night, to meet in
Toccopola, Miss., on Tuesday before the
first full moon In October, 1910.

SAVANNAH PRESBYTERY
Met at Fitzgerald, April 12, 1910, and the
opening sermon was preached by Rev.
Charles Montgomery, from Deut. 1:8.
Organization: Rev. L. A. McLaurin
was elected moderator, and Rev. A. L.
Patterson was elected reading clerk.
Candidate: Mr. Esten G. Cromartie
was taken under the care of the Presbytery
as a candidate for the ministry.
Blackshear Institute: A lengthy and
hopeful report was made by the trustees
of Blackshear Institute and the following
trustees were elected: Elder J. T.
Brantley, of Blackshear; Mr. Lawrence
McNeil, of Savannah; Mr. W. B. Connolv

Missions, and Presbytery ordered that
