?Church of the Covenant: Four additional
communicants were received into
the membership of this church on the
Third Sunday of May.
Governor Wm. H. Mann is expected to
head the large delegation of men from
Virginia who will participate in the Bible
class parade in connection with the
World's Sunday School Convention in
Washington.
Dr. Ortz, the talented Seminary student,
who was formerly a Spanish Roman
Catholic friar, will attend the General
Assembly at Lewisburg, and will
speak on the waning power of the papacy
in Southern Europe.
Norfolk: Rev. V. R. Gaston, pastor of
the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church,
has accepted a call to the Antloch
Church, of Robeson county, N. C. This
charge includes several small churches.
Warrenton: The pastor, Rev. William
Chinn, has had the assistance of Rev. J.
R. Sevier, of Alexandria, in a series of
evangelistic services, which began May
16.
Alexandria: The pastor, Rev. J. R. Sevier,
was recently assisted in special services
by Rev. E. T. Wellford, of the First

A new church for Abingdon Presbytery:
At its late meeting, held in Pulaski,
Abingdon Presbytery heard a request
from about seventy-five people,
living near High Point meeting house
for an organized church at that place.
While many of these petitioners were
members of other denominations, and
some of no church, yet all wished for a
Presbyterian church. . . Answering
this request, Presbytery appointed Revs.
We Crowe, G. W. Nickel and J. M. McChesney,
with Elders Thos. M. Porterfield,
of Glade Spring Church, and J. P.
McChesnev. of Green Soring Church, a
commission to visit the field, and, "if the
way be clear," to organize a Church.
The entire commission was present Maj>
10 and 11. Rev. Wm. Crowe, Chairman,
preached an eloquent and forceful sermon
to a large congregation. Thirty
one charter members were enrolled.
Messrs. S. J. Latham and W. B. Campbell
were elected Elders, with John W. Camphell
and Alex Leonard as deacons. All
officers were ordained and installed. Mr.
King Leonard, one of the charter members,
was introduced to the commission,

Norfolk Presbytery: The constitutional
requirements having been complied with,
I hereby call a meeting of Norfolk Presbytery,
to be held in the study of the
First Presbyterian Church, Monday, May

Synod's Home Missions. June is set
apart for this work, and don't forget it.
There has never existed, in the history
of our work, a greater necessity for a
good collection than now. Through the

C. R. Stribling, M.D., to preach, preside,
etc.; Rev. L. L. Moore, M.D., to charge

Draft, Va., a commission was appointed
to organize a church there, if the way

Church, and W. W. Sproul, of Bethel.
With reference to the erection of a new
Presbytery from parts of Lexington,
Winchester and Greenbrier Presbyteries,
a committee was appointed to gather information
and report at the fall meeting.

WEST VIRGINIA.
Slanesville: Our new Presbyterian
Church at Slanesville, West Virginia, will
soon be ready to dedicate. We want the
Rev. Dr. Brooke, of Romney, West Virginia,
and Rev. W. J. Webster, of Front
Royal, Va., to dedicate the church. We

before dedicated, and as we have not
enough, we hope some who read these
lines may be willing to help a needy and
worthy congregation who have never
had a church of our own to worship in.
The Rev. Mr. Doffin, of the Union Theological
Seminary of Richmond, Va., is
here now, to .labor in this needy field until
September. We pray that his labors
will be greatly blessed.

Presbytery was held in Romney, W. Va..
May 10, 1910, at 8 p. m. Present, four

J. A. Woods, father of Rev. T. E. P. Woods,
of Bolivar, Tenn. Dr. Woods has been:

from his bedside indicates probable recovery.
Rev. James I. Vance, D. D., has permitted
the publication of a recent sermon
preached in his own church on*
"Why I Believe in Christ." It is rich.
and instructive, as might be expected.
His Church has recently reported as follows:
The statistical report of the North
Church to Classis for the year ending
April 1, 1910, is as follows: Number of
families, 1,067; received on Confession,
86; on certificate, 26; dismissed, 19;
died, 13; total in communion, 1,762; absent
list, 200; baptized, infants, 44;
adults, 10; number of Sunday Schools,
4; total Sunday School enrollment,
1,807; contributions to denominational
objects, $18,584; to other objects, $14,583;
to congregational expenses, $17,453.

H. Fussell, of Columbia, Tenn., was
elected moderator by acclamation and
the formal organization of the Eighth
Cumberland Presbyterian General Assembly
completed at the night session of
May 19. Committees were appointed at
that meeting, and the actual work of the
Assembly was begun May 20.
