MAY NOTES FROM THE THORNWELL
ORPHANAGE.

our church papers. We are asked by
some of the many Sunday-schools who
take up their monthly collections to
make them longer. Thanks, friends, but
we take up all the room we dare ask for.
Our pupils are just as busy as possible
during May, getting ready for the closing
exercises of the session, on June 12-14.
There will be a test in elocution on the
Friday before commencement among
some of the jnore ambitious boys, particularly
of the High School Department.

Dr. Dunbar H. Ogden, of Atlanta, who
w.ll preach before the nine young people
of the graduating class. The Young
Dadies' Literary Society takes up Monday
night. Their exercises are preceded
by the dedication address of Gov. Ansel,
by which he sets apart the new Hollingsworth
Home to its good work. The
Hoard of Trustees, composed of the appointees
of the Synods, will meet on
Tuesday afternoon. On Tuesday night
Dr. Richard Orine Flinn, of Atlanta,
gives the commencement address, and
ex-Gov. G. D. Shands, of Mississippi,
presents the medals and prizes. The
Alumni meets oil Wednesday morning
and the school exhibitions are given
Wednesday night. This statement will
indicate both the zeal that the teachers
take in their work and likewise the interest
that our leaders of thought take in
the school. Of course everything is as
busy as possible getting ready for the
occasion.
Within the month pupils have been
admitted from Virginia, North Carolina,
South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and
Tennessee. In each of these cases it
seemed almost impossible to refuse admission
for the children applying, although
funds are exceedingly low at this
present juncture of affairs.
Five vpars havp nnssprl since the fires
have destroyed two of our buildings, and
this year has been signalized by the renewal
of a large amount of insurance
taken out on the five-year plan, which is
a heavy burden upon the institution. In
addition, efforts are being made to carry
out the instructions of the board to put
down water mains for fire protection in
connection with the city systems, and
the installation of a sewerage plant
which seems to be absolutely necessary
for health and is urged by authorities.
This will subject us to great expense
nnd callB for generous giving. The
writer does not know how to beg; he
does not believe in begging any way.

Seventy years of experience with Ayer's
Cherry Pectoral have given us great
confidence in it. We strongly recommend
it for coughs, colds, bronchitis,
weak throats, and weak lungs. It prevents.
It protects. It soothes. It heals.
Just the help nature needs.
