Rev. J. M. Northrop, the former Rector
of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in

is so thorough that it must attract
attention wherever it appears. The public
cannot afTord to ignore so great a

THE PRESBYTERI,
During the last few days the Department
has received numerous reports
from physicians, telling of cases of
diphtheria in their practice. While
these are as yet few in number, experience
has convinced the Department
that these neglected cases lead to other
cases and bring about the epidemics
which sometime play havoc among the
children of a community.
The bulletin issued by the Department
is as follows: 'In view of the
number of diphtheria case reported to
this Department during the last few
days, the attention of the public is
called to the necessity of prompt att.
ntion to these early cases of the disease.
If they are not properly quarantined
and treated, they will spread the
infection and make the problem of
properly controlling diphtheria next
winter much more difficult. If, on the
other hand, the early cases are properly
cared for, the winter diphtheria
will be much reduced.
"The Department wishes also to announce
that the arrangement for the
distribution of antitoxin are now complete.
All persons needing this great
remedy can secure it as very low rates
from this Department. Bill will be
rendered the purchaser by the manufacturer
of the remedy, and there are
no restrictions on the sale. If taken
in time, diphtheria antitoxin is a sure
cure and an absolute preventative of
diphtheria. Thousands of children in
America owe their lives to its use,
thousands of deaths are directly due to
neglect of this remedy.

It is sometimes desirable to know the
day of the week for some specified day
of the month when neither calendar nor
almanac are at hand.
The following twelve -words the initial
letters of which represent the first
day cf each successive month, must be
committed to memory. For this reason
they are arranged in a couplet.
"At Dover Dwelt George Brown Esquire
Good Caleb Fritz And David Friar."
For instance George or rather G
stands for April 1st.

1. The day of the week for January
1st must be known.
2. for leap years an extra day must
be counted for dated after February 29.
Illustration: Find the day of the
week for Nov. 24, 1912.
The word David or rather D stands
for Nov. 1st. Monday is the first day
of January, and 1912 is a Leap year.
D that stands for Nov. * 1st is the
fourth letter of the alphabet. Commencing
with Monday the first day of
January count four days and an extra
day for leap year, which would be five
days from Monday and we have Friday
as the first day of Nov. Then Friday
would be the 22nd and Sunday the 24th.
Rule Two.
To select Moonlight nights for Presbytery
or Synod. Remember that it
takes 354 days for the moon to make
twelve Synodical revolutions. This
lacks eleven days of completing a full
year. For instance the first quarter
last May was on the 5th day. Eleven
days earlier for 1912 would be April

24th, which is Wednesday according to
Rule 1, and which would be a suitable
time for moonlight for the Spring Presbytery.
In a similar way we can find
the best time for Synod. For instance:
The first quarter, Oct. 1911, is the 30th.
