been providentially given us in answer
to our daily prayers for more spiritual
life among our Chinese Christians at
Hashing. His most helpful discourses
had continued from last Thursday, and
now early Sabbath morning of October
8th, at 8 o'clock, the church had a
goodly number of students and others '
present to listen to burning words about
Christ, and then to unite in some of the
most earnest prayers for spiritual aid
the writer has been privileged to hear.
Then after a short time the Sabbath
school exercises were held, the classes 1
having the privilege of modern separate
class rooms. At 10:30 A. M. Dr. Yang
again began to speak, and as he dis- 1
coursed on Zaccheus, making the air

over the audience, and many a heart
must have felt the truth go home to the
inmost depths, convicting of sin as
Jesus had done in the case of Zaccheus.
Afetr dinner, at 2 P. M., the discourse
was on the wonderful theme of the
vicarious atonement. And strange to
say, this Chinese, formerly a medical
man who had been converted and had
been tilled with a special hunger and
thirst for Scripture truth, without
knowing the theological terms, stated
cue iuus aiuiiuuiciii in ub ciear
rerms as the profoundest theologian.
This Is another proof that an unbiased
mind in dealing with Scripture, and
guided by the Spirit, must inevitably
Hnd Christ and him crucified and as a
penal sacrifice for sinners, the only
theme in the Bible. In some sections
In China this view of the atonement is
sneered at by some missionaries, sad
to say. Why are they in China? Dr.
Vang intimated that such ought to go
home, for they had no message to dying
men.

day. Actual fasting as in the golden
days of our forefathers, was practiced,
with great spiritual results. At night
we all met at Dr. Venable's home to
pray particularly for two thingB,
namoiy:
1. The Kashlng church members and
work in general, but especially for the
meetiugs as held by Dr. Yang. The earnestness
of the prayers and discussion
preceding it will make that Sabbath a
memorable one to us at this station.
We felt the Spirit's presence In our
raids?.
2. For the Church at home, with especial
reference to raising the debt
under which the Committee Is burdened.
Let all our friends at home, besides
any others who feel so moved, unite
with us continually in praying for the
things mentioned above, which are so
upon our hearts. Let us all expect
great things from God, and attempt
great things for him.
