You would not think of requiring a
crippled child to keep pace with
heaithy, vigorous children on a long
journey. And yet there are parentB,
teachers and even some physicians who
utterly fail to realize that a child crippled
in mind cannot keep pace with
normal children in the difficult
journeys of tne school room. The public
schools are graded for the nealthy
child of normal mental development,
and the pace set is a hundred times too
fast for the feeble-minded child. In
the public schools, or under a private
tutor, there is only one fate for the
chnd of backward mental development,
namely?laiiuie! Wny t Because the
memcds and even the principles which
apply in the teaching of natural children
are totally inadequate and ineffective
in tne teaching of the menially
crippled.
'mere is only one hope for the feebleminded
child?and that hope is no
brighter than one might wish?namely:
physical and mental training at the
hands of expert physicians and teachers
who have made a life study of the
subject and understand the nature of
the inllrmity, and have special facilities
for developing the mind to the limit of
its possibilities. The South is fortunate
in possessing one high-class private institution
of this character. Parents interested
in the subject may obtain additional
light from the annual catalogue
of the Stewart Home and School, Dr.
John P. Stewart, Supt., Box 1-A, Farmdale,
Ky.

Cough in a Hurry
Save 93 l>y Making Thla Cough
Syrup at Home.
This recipe makes a pint of better
cough syrup than you could buy ready
made for $2.60. A few doses usually
conquer the most obstinate oough?
tops even whooping cough quickly. Simple
as it is, no better remedy can be had
at any price.
Mix one pint of granulated sugar with
^ pint of warm water, and stir for 2
minutes. Put 2% ounces of Pinex (fifty
cents' worth) in a pint bottle; then add
the Sugar Syrup. It has a pleasant
taste and lasts a family a long time.
Take a teaspoonful every one, two or
three hours.
You can feel this take hold of a oough
in a way that means business. Has a
good tonic effect, braces up the appetite,
and is slightly laxative, too. which is
helpful. A handy remedy for hoarseness,
croup, bronchitis, asthma and all
throat and lung troubles.

LIBE11TY.
Liberty is the supremacy of law.
Where law is supreme there is freedom.
A failure to recognize this fact has
thrown the machiuery of the world out
of gear. Anarchists iu the Church and
out of it are howling themselves hoarse
as the diiciples of liberty. Ihe veriest
serfs, exulting in the degradation of
themselves and of their city and State,
inscribe on their blood-stained banners
the legend: ".Personal Liberty." Their
liberty is the disguised spirit of lawlessness.
It wears a mask of beauty,
but beneath it are the "raw head and
bloody bones. The liberty, so-called, of
three-fourths of the inhabitants of the
world is nothing but deiiance, and abrogation
of law. It means for a humanity
a Lucifer fall, and to as deep a
hell.
Never before in the history of the
world was there greater need than
there is today of the teaching of the
truth that obedience to law. and noth.
lng but obedience, Is liberty- Let this
teaching be constant and emphatic In
home and school, and the prime evils
in Church and State will vanish.?Nash,
vllle Advocate.
A lVISE DECISION.
That was a most sensible and praiseworthy
decision made by Judge Hollister.
of Cincinnati, in the United States
District Court, during the application of
nearly a hundred foreigners who wished
to become citizens of this countryAfter
the examiners had finished taking
testimony the judge himself sought
testimony. Giambattisto Paolella, an
Italian and a saloonkeeper, answered all
the questions put to him by the examiner
with accuracy. "Do you keep open
after midnight?" asked the judge. "No,
your honor." Paolella answered. "Do
you keep open on Sunday?" was the
next question. "Yes, sir," faltered the
applicant "That is enough. If you can
not obey the laws of the city you have
no rigi^t to ask to be a citizen." was
Judge Holllster's next statement, and he
dismissed the application. If the general
principle here laid down by the
judge could be applied both to those
seeking citizenship and already holding
it the nation would be strengthened beyond
computation.?Western Christian
Advocate.
THE GREAT TREASURY.
Christ's birth and life and death, his
whole history in fact, resembles one of
those treasure-chests which double
locks secure; for as that iron safe
yields its hoards of gold, silver, and
ireana, aim precious atones to none but
him who brings to each lock Its own
appropriate key, so the riches of divine
truth, redeeming love, and saving mercy
are open only to such as come to
'esus. with a belief In his divinity on
the one hand, and a belief In his humanity
on the other?who behold In
the child, whose birth wee sung by
angels, the son of Mary, and worship
the only begotten, well beloved, and
eternal Son of Qod.?Thomas Guthrie.
