Hon to Hove the Beat Cough
Syrup and Save 92, by
Making It at Home.
Cough medicines, as a rule, contain a
large quantity of plain syrup. If you
take one pint of granulated sugar, add
Mi pint of warm water and stir about
2 minutes, you have as good syrup as
money ooula buy.
If you will then put 2% ounces of
Pinex (50 cents' worth) in a pint bottle,
and fill it up with the Sugar Syrup, you
will have as much oough syrup as you
could buy ready made for $2.60. It
keeps perfectly.
And you will find it the best cough
syrup you ever used?even in whooping
cough. You can feel it tako hold?usu
any siops me most severe couch in 24
hours. It isjust laxative enough, has a
good tonio effect, and taste is pleasant.
Take a teaspoonful every one, two or
three hours.
It is a splendid remedy, too, for
whooping cough, croup, hoarseness, asthma,
chest pains, etc.
Pinex is the most valuable concentrated
compound of Norway white pine ext
tract, rich in guaiacol and all the healing
pine elements. No other preparation
will work in this formula.
This recipe for making cough remedy
with Pinex and Sugar SyTup is now
used and prized in thousands of homes
in the United States and Canada. The
plan has often been imitated but never
successfully.
A guaranty of absolute satisfaction, or
money promptly refunded, goea with this
recipe. Your druggist has Pinex, or will
sr*t it for vou. If not, send to The

APPLES IN THE SOUTH-EAST.

Soutneaet Is snown In a statement recently
made by L?r. George T. i-owell,
of tne Agncuituial Experts' Station of
New York, one of the world's most
eminent hoiticuuural autnorities, wuo
has just maue an examination of a
large number ol tracts of rand in nortu
Georgia lying aiong tne lines of tne
?outnern Railway, notaoly in Habersham
and Rabun counties, of wnlcu ue
said:
"The conditions necessary for tlie
successful cultuie of tne appie must
naturally be found in billy or somewnat
mountainous sections, and bence tae
territory over wbicb the bnest apples?
those possessing tae finest quality?
may be grown, is somewhat limited.
Northjast Ueoigia has tucse conditions
in a most unusual digrce. 1 found a
soil that is a wonderful comb'<nation of
sandy loam, red loam, and cl'iy, that iB
fully supplied with humus. It is practically
virgin soil. With an elevation of
from fifteen hundred to two thousand
f6et, climatic conditions of the most desirable
character are assured; such as
warm sunny days, and cool night temperatures,
which give to the apple its
highest flavor and Its most beautiful
color. The rolling character of the land
assures perfect natural drainage, while
its high elevation renders it emi'ient'v
free from those fungus diseases that
in many sections aiu disastrous t/ the

trees.
"With an average annual rainfall of
60 inches in the mountainous regions
of the Southeast, Irrigation need not be
considered. With tillage and cover
crops the soil wili continue to improve
for a century to come. Only capital,
intelligence and good business methods
are required to make this section wonderful
in its natural resources, not only
in the cluture of apples, but in general
agriculture. The soil and natural conditions
that snake for agricultural
wealth are here on every hand, and all
that Is needed to develop them is an influx
of desirable settlers and the use of
the above qualifications."
Dr. Powell's tribute to the possibilities
of the Southeast for apple growing
naturally means much for this favored
region, and the Souther^ Railway
Company is giving wide exploitation to
his estimate in the hope of arousing the
Southeast to new Interests in horticulture
as well as attracting investors from
th? country at laraa.

I think.
There is one man in the Synod of Virginia
that is willing to tackle such a

Bucess.
Recently I was corresponding with
Rev. Earnest H. Norwood, Supt. of our
Orphan's Home at Lynchburg, about a
shipment of supplies raised in my congregation
for the orphans. In one of bis
letters he mentioned the fact that they
are establishing a poultry department
and that they would appreciate a hen, or
pullet preferred, from each member of
our Church In the Synod of Virginia.
Having my curiosity aroused I looked
in the minutes of the Assembly, to make
sure of my impression and found that at

I wondered if Bro. Norwood was &

him about It and told bim that if be
was, 1 would do wbat I could to get tbe
cbickcns for bim, and tbat I supposed
tbe joke would be on bim if he got tbem.
But here be comes again with, "Let tbe
chickens come; we will take care of
them, Failing this will call in tbe Methodist
Conference." There is a man for
you, he meanB business and haB tact.
He 1b going to "take care" of those 50,892
chickens, or feed tbem to the Methodist
bretberen and lay on them a debt of
appreciation which nothing short of a
large donation can discharge.
All right, Bro. Norwood, our next donation
will be chickens, and I trust
that your many friends all over the
Synod of Va. wdll send you as many
more as you need, and many other good
things. If you do not get them in a reasonable
