more irrevocably to bis pledge against

The situation in regard to the battle
for temperance reform in the nation
ib simply this today: The dry voteis
are pretty well lined up against the
salon, but we have not enough of them.
The temperance forces are lighting desperately
to hold their ground until we
i an bring up the reserves?boys and
girls. If the onurch shall perform her full
duty in training up as militant abstainers
the oncoming generation of boys
and girls, there is strong hope that the
liquor traffic will speedily be abolished,
and tha tAmerica will become a nation
of sober people. But the place to begin
is with the boys and girls. We should
get drinking men to quit so far as we
can, but by all means we should keep
the boys and girls from beainnina.
And now the movement ,s being extended
In the Lincoln-Lee Legion. Recently
attention has been drawn to the
fact that General Robert E. Lee, as a
contemporary of Lincoln in those days
when drinking was the common custom,
was also a strong advocate of total
abstinence. To the students of Washington
College, Virginia, he said: "My
experience through life has convinced
me that, while moderation and temperance
in all things are commendable and
beneficial, abstinence from sprfrituous
liquors is the best safeguard to morals
and health." So the names of these
two illustrious Americans, both revered
for their strong total abstinence principles,
have been placed together, in the
name of a great moral suasion movement,
now being launched in the South.
We bid God-speed to the Lincoln-Lee
Legion.

long neck and a very long, narro,w, big
boned face, with a high forehead and
long, square jaw. The ears are somewhat
overnormal in size, with very small
lobes, and are large and well rounded
at the top. They are set high up on
the sides of the head, and this, with the
prominent cheek bones and aggressive
chin, give the jaw an appearance of
great length. The face is a pleasing
one. Very reiftned, but not exactly handsome,
and yet it is hard to tell why. The
eyebrows are beautifully arched and the
mouth is uncommonly well shaped for a
man. It is sensitive, but firm. The eyes
are Dlue gray, and although generally
very kindly, at times take on a hard
piercing expression. The tip of the nose
is most mobile and twitches whenever
the governor lays emphasis on a word."
