WOMAN'S WORK
Conducted by MLse Carrie Lee Campbell.
PMYKIt.
Docs our American faith equal
I his? An old Chinese woman had
several feet of water in her little
mud hut. She huilt her bed on the
roof of the house, and prayed God
that the water should not rise fur
ther. God honored her faith, and
the waters receded.
Later the next house caught fire,
and her straw was in imminent dan
ger. She again called upon her God,
and the wind was changed hy the
hand of Him who said, "Before they
call 1 will answer, an dwhile they
are yet speaking 1 will hear."
This old woman was last seen
teaching a group of little children
to sing, "Jesus Loves Me." Faith
and works.
AllllIE BEN AI>AMS.
Abbie Ben Adams, may her life be
spared,
Awoke one night and felt a trifle
scared,
For on her shirtwaist box, cross
legged sate,
A Vision writing on a little slate.
Exceeding nervousness made Abbie
quake.
And to the Vision timidly she spake:
"What writest thou?" The Vision
looked appalled
At the presumption, and quite coldly
drawled: t
"The list of our best people who de
part
For watering places sumptuous and
smart."
"And am I in it?" asked Miss Abbie.
"No!" the scornful Vision said,
"you're poor, you know."
"I know," said Abbie; "I go where
it is cheap,
I can't afford mountains of prices
steep.
But just jot down before you fade ?
I never leave my mission dues un
paid."
The Vision wrote and vanished. Next
'night late
He came again, and brought his little
slate
And showed the names of people real
ly best ?
And lo, MIbs Abbie's name led all the
rest!

HUMMER CHIUSTMAS TREES.
These are not new. They furnish
a splendid outdoor opportunity. An
nounce several weeks in advance that
Christmas presents for Foreign Mis
sion stations are to be brought in,
giving definite instructions for hand
made articles, and a full list of all
the articles that will be accepted for
the Christmas box. Hold an outdoor
meeting centered around a small
growing tree, gaily decorated. Have
the gifts fastened to the tree, or piled
underneath it as they are brought in,
with a program of information and
inspiration about the work in th*
mission fields to which they go. A
committee appointed for the purpose
should pack the articles received, see
ing that they are shipped promptly,
all charges prepaid, with a draft for
New York Exchange mailed separate
ly to the amount of half the valua
tion of the box, to cover charges for
duty. Some missionaries are kept in
a state of constant poverty because
of the generosity of frionds in Amer

any arrangement (or the payment ot

A MOST WKIiCOMK AND TIMED*
HELP.
Suggestions for Irfmders Studying
"Unfinished Tasks."
This little book comes as a very
real help to every leader who is try
ing to help others to get the very
best results from the study of Dr.
Homer MacMillan's new Home Mis
sion book, "Unfinished Tasks."
It comes with a special freshness
and force, because it is from the pen
of Mrs. L. W. Curtis, who writes with
her heart, and with much personal
knowledge of the Home Mission work.
And with her full mind, large heart,
ready pen, and her ready-a^-call vo
cabulary, Mrs. Curtis has given us
what we will all need when we get
our classes together next fall.
And we thank her.

AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT.
A few weeks ago we repeated in
the department, by earnest request,
an exercise of questions and answers
on "Things We Ought to Know" about
our own church work.
We were not then able to find the
originator.
Now we know it is from the ready
pen of Mrs. T. W. Simpson, of Bris
tol, Tenn., formerly the efficient 8.
P. G. Secretary of the Virginia Ry?
nodical.
And we thank her most heartily.

"We have a kindergarten in name

There are so many of the keys that
will not sound that it leaves the tune
rather suspended in mid-air. Mrs.
Coit is our singing teacher, and she
often sighs for an organ, so that she
may teach properly. She could also
given organ lessons to the girls we
are anxious to train for teachers.
