Worshipper:
Tune "Hebron" ?
So let our lives and lips express
The holy gospel we profess;
So let our works and virtues
shine,
To prove the doctrine all divine.
Teacher:
Tune "Vienna" ?
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my heart it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
Physician:
Take my skill and it shall be
Used in services for Thee.
Take my love, my Lord I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
\
Business Man:
Take my intellect and use
Every power as Thou shalt
choose.
Take my hands and let them
move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Rich Man:
Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would 1 withhold.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.
Hypocrite:
Tune "Flemming" ?
O Holy Saviour! Friend unseen,
Since on Thine arm Thou bidst
me lean.
Help me throughout life's chanc
ing scene,
By faith to cling to Tnee.
After Seventh Angel's adaress,
whole audience sings:
"O Day of Rest and Gladness."
(Note ? If desired, during the sing
ing of this last hymn the several
Angels may raise their trumpets to
their mouths as though sounding a
call, and, the Worshipper, Teacher,
Physician, Rich Man and Hypocrite
may approach from different parts of
the audience and kneel again at the
altar as though in prayer.
THE WORDS OF THF PAGEANT.
Seven Angel* Representing the Seven
Churches.
I
First. Angel ? ( Addressing Worshipper
at altar) ? This is the day the Lord
haih made; what doeat thou to keep
it Holy?
Worshiper ? Hast thou not read in
the Old Testament that on the Sab
bath Day two lambs of the first
year without spot and two-tenths
of flour for a meat offering,
mingled with oil and the drink of
fering thereof, should be offered in
sacrifice to God? This do 1 to keep
the Sabbath Day holy.
First Anjjel ? Hath the Lord as great
delight in burnt offerings and sac
rifices, as in obeying the voice of
the Lord? Behold, to obey is bet
ter than sacrifice and to hearken
than the fat of rams! Christ said:
"I will have mercy and not sac
rifice."
II
Second An?jel ? Hail thou Teacher ?
this is the day Ihe Lord hath made.
What doest thou to keep it holy?
Teacher ? Six days of the week I give
instruction to the young. God
commanded us to keep the Sabbath
holy by resting that we might not
be put to death. So, this do I to
keep the Sabbath holy.
Heron <1 Ansel ? Judge not according
to the appearance but judge right
eous judgment. Hast thou not
read that when the Sabbath day
was come, the Great Teacher as his
custom was, went into the syna
gogue and taught? May God give
you grace to employ your intellect
for His use and fill your lips with
messages from Him.
Ill
Third Angel ? Hail Physician ? this is
the day the Lord hath made. What
doest thou to keep it holy?
Phyttician ? Hast thou not read in the
Scriptures of the Old Testament
God's command: Six days thou shalt
work, but on the seventh thou shalt
rest? This do I to keep the Sab
bath holy.
Third Ansel ? What man shall there
be that shall have one sheep and
if it fall into a pit on the Sabbath
.day will he not 'lay hold on it ana
lift it up? How much then is a
man better than a sheep? Where
fore it is laWTul to do good 011 the
Sabbath day. Christ said, it is' law
ful to heal on the Sabbath. In a
much as ye have done it unto one
of the least of these, ye have done
it unto me.
* 1
iy
Fourth Angel ? Hail thou, Rich Man
? this is the day the Lord hath
made. What doest thou to keep it
holy? Every day God hath blesse'
thee ? every day He hath supplied
thy wants. Halt thou inscribe
holiness to the Lord on all of thy
wealth and thy possessions? Dosl
thou return a just proportion of
these things to Him for His keep
ing and His use? What doest tho?
with thy wealth to keep the Sab
bath holy?
Ktrh Man ? Day by day I say to my
soul, Soul thou hast much goods
laid up for many years. I fare
sumptuously. Take thine ease, my
soul, eat, drink and be merry. This
do I to keep the Sabbath holy.
Fourth Angel ? Go to now, you Rich
Man, weep and howl for your mis
eries that shall come upon you. The
cattle upon the thousand hills are
the Lord's? th? gold and the silver
are His. He hath given the in
crease and hath commanded that
upon the first day of the week
every one should lay by him in
store as God hath prospered him.
Lay up for yourself treasures in
heaven where neither moth nor
rust doth corrupt, where thieves do
not break through and steal.
V
Fifth Angel ? Hail thou, Business Man
? this is the day the Lord hath
made. What doest thou to keep it
holy? Thy hands are swift enough
and cunning enough in the various
crafts that make for your own gain,
but in the presence of the needs
and calls for men, what doest thou
with those hands to keep the Sab
bath holy?
Business Man ? He becometh poor
that dealeth with a slack hand. 1
have studied to do my own "busi
ness, as God hath commanded, but
on the Sabbath I learn to be idle,
wandering from the house of one
of my friends to the house of an
other, a tattler and busybody,
speaking things I ought not. This
do I to keep the Sabbath holy.
Fifth Angel ? Hast thou not read how
Jesus went about on the Sabbath
day ? doing good ? causing the
blind to see, the deaf to hear and
giving meat to the hungry? O,
Business Man, may God give you
grace to employ all your talents
and advantages on the Sabbath day
for His use, that you may be the
agent for sowing the seed of right
living in the heart of some unbe
liever, that he may take the first
step homeward to that reward that
Christ hast promised to all >yho be
lieve on Him. May He maitie you
fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.
Do this to keep the Sabbath day
holy.
VI
Sixth Angel ? Hail thou, Hypocrite ?
this is the day the Lord hath made.
What doest thou to keep it holy?
Hypocrite ? I give my alms before
men to be seen of them. I love to
pray standing in the synagogue and
in the corners of the streets, that
I may be seen of men. This I do
to keep the Sabbath holy.
Sixth Angel ? O thou Hypocrite ? take
heed that you do not your alms be
fore men, to be seen of them;
otherwise you have no reward of
your Father which is in Heaven.
When thou doest thy alms do not
sound a trumpet before thee, but
when thou doest alms let not thy
left hand know what thy right hand
doeth, and thy Father which eeeth
in secret shall reward thee openly,
-/^pd when thou prayest, pray to thy
Father in secret and He shall re
ward thee openly.
VII
Seventh Angel ? Hail, Everyman ?
which is the Fouth Commandment?
Whence came . the wisdom con
densed in the Fourth Command
ment? Not from the Greeks, called
the wisest of nations, for these
words were written a thousand
years before Socrates was born.
Not from the Roman Masters of
jurisprudence, for these words an
tedate the foundtug of Rome by
seven hundred and fifty years. They
come from our Heavenly Father
